Sickening. Please share far and wide.

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...

Great @maddow.bsky.social show tonight. SUCH a long (albeit interesting) stemwinder setup but a very satisfying and inspiring end. Quintessential Maddow (Where tf is this going?… OK I don’t care where it’s going, this is intriguing… OH! Now I get it!)

Writers will not forget.

Ken Tremendous@kentremendous.bsky.social

By the time this merger ruins HBO, destroys WB, gets 5,000 people fired, moves production overseas, and guts the quality of the movies the new studio makes, most people will have forgotten how fast the AGs caved and how little they got in this deal. Writers will not.

I mean…sure. Until they just ignore that provision and order CNN t report to Bari Weiss and dare someone to enforce it. Like who’s policing this? What oversight does anyone really have?

NEW: @apnews.com confirms that ICE has begun electronically "disappearing" people in the agency's custody who have final orders of removal. As of last week, anyone jailed by ICE with a final order of removal will NOT appear in the ICE Online Detainee Locator System, making them effectively vanish.

Stay tuned for more on this from mainstream reporting hopefully later today, but Bob's got the gist of it; last week, it appears that ICE began disappearing people from the Online Detainee Locator System the moment they get a final order of removal. Yes, this is as deeply screwed up as it sounds.

Agree! Seems like we should do everything we can to stop media companies from being controlled by his cronies!

Governor Gavin Newsom@governor.ca.gov

First, Trump banned independent news from the White House. Now, he's launching what is quite literally state-run TV to try drowning out the fact that he and his corrupt administration are failing the American people. This is truly autocratic behavior from a failed President.

I will always remember this most. RIP Bob Mackie.

shauna@goldengateblond.bsky.social

he did many of cher’s and dolly’s most glamorous gowns but what i will always remember most about bob mackie was this iconic look. and i think he’d be fine with that.

Fourteen years ago, HBO's 'The Newsroom' laid out the truth about voter ID in this segment. It’s striking how little the arguments — or the tactics — have changed. Still a solution in search of a problem. History doesn’t repeat itself — it gets rerun.

"The 'take it or leave it' power of these studios is already enormous, and writers have borne the brunt of it. A combined Paramount-Warner Bros. will only make it worse." #BlockTheMerger vist.ly/5fz7x

The United States and Canada have been friends, partners, and allies for more than 150 years across 32 presidential administrations. And now, solely because of the arrogance, incompetence, and ego of the current occupant of the White House, that relationship is being driven straight toward a cliff.

Get it together, @ms.now — tonight there were ZERO regular anchors in primetime. (Psaki was in for Rachel ) No shade to any of the subs (especially Chris Jansing, who deserved better from @ms.now), but your audience is not on Congress’ calendar. We expect a couple anchors to show up even in August

This is a mainstream view. @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social agrees: Abolish ICE.

El-Sayed: "Once a government agency like ICE is told it has impunity to do the worst things and violate the highest law of the land, which is the Constitution itself, I don't think you can reform or retrain. I think we need to start from scratch ... I think we need to abolish it."

Hey, L.A. want to take a break from the hellscape that is national politics & do something that could make a real difference locally? You can help Bill AB-2010 get passed. What's AB-2010? It's a bill that expands spay and neuter services to Mobile Animal Sterilization Hospital (MASH) units. 1/4

Why would you disable replies? Anyway, has your kitty pooped recently? Older cats often get constipated. The vet can prescribe lactulose, or if it’s serious, can give her an enema. Good luck

If Warner Bros. merges with Paramount, the combined company would become the largest employer of writers. Both companies are already industry giants and the loss of head-to-head competition will directly impact writers at every level as well as the pipeline for emerging writers. #BlockTheMerger

There has never been one time, in all the ICE/DHS/CBP killings, where their justification has matched the facts that later emerged. Not one.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Cole Haddon@colehaddon.bsky.social

Netflix’s biggest shows have been losing 30-70% of their audience between seasons 1 and 2. Executives are in a panic because they can’t figure out why, but the answer is probably pretty damn obvious to anyone who’s paying attention.

i believe that the the entire "binge watch" model of releasing television series is based on a faulty premise, and that faulty premise has significantly devaluated television as an art form. stick with me on this one...

Read the whole thread, folks. @okbjgm.bsky.social is spot on.

javier grillo-marxuach@okbjgm.bsky.social

somewhere in this life, someone said "hey, this binge watching thing is great, let's do it all that way!" without realizing that the actual phenomenon was buttressed by an entire media landscape that has now essentially vanished because of the initial success and novelty of stream-binging.
