It seems a fool's tactic to trust that [ai-models|social-platforms|politicians|oligarchs] will feel constrained by the limits placed on them by rules.

I have a new contention which is that if you are checking in AI generated code without fully understanding it, it's a special type of closed source that's even closed to its putative authors.

It's time for pundits to realize that he's not trying to succeed and failing, he's trying to fail and succeeding. If you look at what they do from the perspective they are purposefully destroying relationships, capacity, potential etc, every thing you decry as not making sense falls right into line.

New definition: Bullshit Points - that bulleted list you just had AI generate for you in service of whatever bullshit you are peddling.

(Don't Fear) The Reaper was just on the radio, and it's always a disappointment now straining for the whole song to hear the cowbell that isn't there. They really need to rerelease it with strong cowbell in the mix.

Something I found interesting about reading this thread is that it made me wonder how many people think of ChatGPT as primarily a tool for writing things for you I use ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini possibly 100+ times a day and NONE of those uses are to produce writing that I then share with other people

Dara Lind@daralind.bsky.social

Maybe it will help a _little_ if I and others like me start saying publicly for the record that we just don’t use ChatGPT. Writing can be really hard — organizing a piece of writing can be especially hard — but I don’t use ChatGPT. If you read my stuff you’re reading something an LLM can’t do.

I see the already historically unpopular president is exploring how to get the military invovled in “assisting” local law enforcement just a few weeks before the real shortages caused by his inept economic policy start hitting. Probably nothing to worry about.

Not only survive but thrive I believe. If our leadership really captures the opportunity here - we have the chance to truly lead in “what’s next” while the US is distracted trying to piece their government and supply chain back together.

How many times a day do you shake your head and think "America is fucked"? Elbows up. Canada will survive.

Blueberries, 2 sz from same brand. sm 2/4.99, lg 1/4.99. sm by vol 551 ml (1 US dry pint) lg by wt 510g (1lb 2oz) density of bbs is .625 so 551ml is 344g. 2 of the sm is a better deal as 688g > 510g. lg box is less depth, so the top looks larger to fool you that you're getting a better deal

This sort of chicanery is what companies come up with to steer you towards bad buying decisions and a cynic (me) might say that it's dishonest and manipulative.

Having to look up the specific density of produce to make a simple comparison between two sizes of the same product from the same company is absolute fuckery.

Calling it now: Harris taking Trump apart as he rants and raves incoherently is the liberal dream - every Sorkin fantasy come to life. People will be devastated when this doesn’t end the race and it’s still neck and neck next week.

Fuck you and your polls. I repeat again the words of James Carey: Polling is "an attempt to simulate public opinion in order to prevent an authentic public opinion from forming." This and its play is The TImes' agenda. Objective, my ass.

@mmasnick.bsky.social great to see you are using Mint. In my estimation the best OOBE to be had. For me Cinnamon just stays out of my way and lets me get things done. There are a few things to learn (e.g. flatpak - 'flatseal' is an essential util to set access permissions) but generally, top marks.

1/4 We're in a long-term political depression. We don't study this like we do economic depression, but we should, because otherwise how will we get out of it? We have scholars tell us how to recognize fascism, authoritarianism, totalitarianism and all the other terrible human

You are up to date.
