Thinking about calm software, reading, and attention. I like bogs, Casio watches, and They Live memes. I build Current, an rss reader for apple platforms, and write visual essays about our relationship with technology.

Just FYI - hit a delay on the new app that was supposed to launch this week. I submitted a last minute small change and Apple has rejected the app. So I'm stuck in paperwork-land for now. I remain optimistic that I can get this pushed through.

Been working on this little hobby project for several weekends. It's ready to show my friends. Most sky apps tell you what's up. Dark Hours tells you the truth: whether tonight is worth it, when, and which way to look. Free, no account, go nuts! darkhours.io #astronomy #stargazing

darkhours.ioDark Hours, what's actually visible in your sky tonightWhether tonight is worth going out for, when to go, and which way to look. Real astronomy, live weather, and a light-pollution model that publishes its error bars.

I’ve been a little distant lately, just super head down on something worth it. A short list of what it entails: FX3, A7, Misc Aputure rigs, an iPod, lots of black paper, a few paperclips, and a hell of a story. 👀 Be back soon.

Why do standards created in the 1970s continue to power the modern internet? According to @terrygodier.com, it’s because they’re “too useful to disappear, too uncool to hype, too federated to acquire, and too awkward to turn cleanly into a platform.” www.terrygodier.com/the-boring-i...

Just added an OPML to the Sourcefeed discover page. This little service continues to grow by leaps and bounds and there’s a real culture developing here. It’s been inspiring and heartwarming and interesting to see how it develops!

I’ve been experimenting with a flagship Android device for the past few days. Can anyone point me to some incredible paid up front / commercial indie apps for Android? I want to see the best of the best. Bonus points if it’s something crafted by one person.

Listen, friends. I love Linux, but I can’t, in good faith, deliver software with the level of information density you seem to require. But I love you anyway <3

😅 you're gonna break it! That station is broadcasting from a $5/mo box!

Via a listserv of early-days Internet mavens, I've dived into @terrygodier.com's world - the un-enshittified Internet hiding behind the surface we live on (and are coopted by). This essay: www.terrygodier.com/the-boring-i... and his "radio station" below...

What I want to build are things that work the old fashioned way, on protocols that give users sovereignty and agency, but with modern thinking applied to the UI and UX. That’s it. That’s my whole shtick. Thanks!

All I want in life is a modern version of Yojimbo that re-imagines Finder as a surface to drag and drop and save and recall and organize various things. Text snippets, memes, contacts, dmgs, webpage archives, bookmarks, json files, whatever. Persistent, visual, spatial, wonderful. Too much?

API in progress as we speak. 🫡

Until I find a solution to bridge RSS over here to Bluesky, I'm doing #songoftheday posts over on Sourcefeed: www.sourcefeed.app/feed/playlist RSS is 100% the right format (though I can't wait for Sourcefeed to have an API so I can make a userscript to make sharing to Sourcefeed less manual)

I think we've had enough of shiny apps that provide "a personalized experience" in return of our attention and identity. I hope we return to a simpler mode of internet soon.

A little UI design tip for engineers: If your app has broken, unfinished features that management forced you to include for business reasons, you can just use this handy little icon to let users know where not to click

Really interesting to see how sourcefeed is working in several ways. It’s a quasi social network for some, responding to each other and coordinating topics, a niche stream of links, daily journals, and software changelogs. Inspiring!

Love the way web pages scroll all the way to the top of the screen in Safari on iOS 26? But totally despise Liquid Glass? Quiche Browser's full screen browsing is now available in Classic theme! Maximum screen real estate for reading, all without floating glass stuff clashing with the web page.

AI bots are now blocked on Sourcefeed. Being RSS-only there’s not really much to scrape, so the surface area is small, but now they’re explicitly blocked from the feeds. If they ignore robots.txt there’s still a proxy/middleware that will blackhole them. www.sourcefeed.app/robots.tx…

Sourcefeed creates standalone RSS feeds: No website, no newsletter. Just your words, delivered to your readers’ rss reader. It’s an appealing, if eccentric idea, explained more in a blog post. https://ift.tt/3CRsqEm

Neat new service called Sourcefeed from Terry Godier to publish RSS feeds: "RSS-only. No website, no inbox, no algorithm. Subscribers read it where they choose, in whatever reader they already trust." My first feature request: let the title field be blank for short posts. 🙂
