As part of my research into the photographer Eveleen Myers (Tennant), I bought a book on her sister Dolly’s art. The book is called ‘Ragamuffins’ and consists of her drawings and poems. Anyway, when opening it found this odd letter inside - one of the things I love about old second hand books.

Sunday photobook inspiration #3. Saul Leiter. I’ve come to his work late, but I find it quite beautiful. Foot on EI, 1954 being one of my favourites. There is a wonderful discussion about his work and archive from those that knew him, on the Right Eye Dominant podcast.

60 years ago today 144 people died in the Welsh village of Aberfan when a colliery spoil tip collapsed onto them. 109 of those were children attending the village school. A tragedy that broke hearts, which remain broken now. The strength and courage shown by that community is an example to us all.

Cornelius Vermuyden finally got the Fenlands drained (well mostly) in the 17th Century ending generations of a unique way of life living with the seasons. Anger erupted into violence and fen folk were suppressed and finally dragged into submission and the land left the many to belong to the few.

On top of the world - a magical morning seen from Titterstone Clee, with sunrise casting a delicate pink glow across the landscape. I was standing not far from Cleehill village, looking out towards Worcestershire. The trees in the foreground are near the village of Hints, while #Shropshire
