I could be a billionaire too if you gave me unlimited seed money and business-redos. The only hard part would be exploiting everyone around me and living with myself.

an interesting and, imo, important read. what does capitalism begin to consume (and/or accelerate its existing consumption of) as it exhausts material avenues for expansion? how do we (as workers, as storytellers) push back?

Around the world, people are pumping themselves full of caffeine, amphetamines, and other performance-enhancing drugs just to survive their working hours. This isn’t sustainable. www.currentaffairs.org/news/a-socie...

They can keep shipping people off to random-ass countries, even if unsafe, because halting removals would create LOGISTICAL CONCERNS!? Logistics of arbitrary goals are more important than human lives. SCOTUS is fucking diabolical, this is insane. American barbarism.

TBH I’m sick of this argument that we have to settle for harm reduction because the billionaires and their mega corps too valuable. This is so backwards — we’re not dependent on them for prosperity, they’re dependent on *exploiting* all these workers. We can do better. bsky.app/profile/atai...

I’d say if Paramount wants to leave, good riddance. Hollywood and Silicon Valley aren’t successful *because of* the massive companies. Rather, those companies rose to prominence because California is a great place to make movies and tech. If they leave, something better will rise to fill the void.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world. This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

Driscoll’s is basically the Monsanto of the berry market. It seems like this business model pops up everywhere I look: minimize liability and maximize profit by hiding behind opaque layers of contractors that you can blame for the shady practices that you tacitly all but demand.

I don’t want to Do mY OwN rEsearCh. I want really clever researchers to do the research because that’s what they are good at and correctly advise politicians and people in power to make the right decisions for the benefit of all of us. I’ll bring snacks.

This gecko has treated bread crumbs (found by the toaster), chocolate ice cream (melted on the side of a mug) and climbed up my son's leg and arm multiple times. #gecko

When I was a little monkeyshine, my pediatrician gave me a marvelous sugar lump. I loved it! My Sainted Mother burst into tears. It was the only time in my entire life I ever saw her cry. She lived to 93. (Ironically, I teared up myself when I got my first Covid vax. Go figure.)
