The minute Dems gain any power at all, watch them descend like locusts, hyping an endless series of fake scandals fed to them by the same RW slop machine that's been playing them for fools for decades. They can't wait.

The political media is visibly chafing at the current situation, where Republicans are glaringly awful, fucking everything up, running deviant candidates everyone hates, and Dems are just being normal & winning. The force is out of balance. They are viscerally eager to go after Dems about something.

Neil Bush, brother of George W. Bush and son of George H.W. Bush, has posted a political message on Facebook for the first time, saying he voted for James Talarico for US Senate over Ken Paxton. Bush says he isn't just opposing Paxton, he has come to admire Talarico.

Whether it's Bill Clinton using tax-payer money to pay for the postage on letters back to people who wrote to his cat or Donald Trump steering hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts to his son's companies, both presidents engaged in corruption on an unprecedented scale.

What’s even wilder is how VT (where I live) & WY are such mirrors: tiny population, hard weather, heavily armed, little policed, rural mountain states that are big on hunting and make a big deal of their cow heritage but survive on tourism.

"We asked the local[s], ‘Why do you call it tilcayo?’” says Nogales-Ascarrunz, who is herself from Bolivia. “And they said, ‘I don’t know! My grandpa called it tilcayo, so I call it tilcayo.” (The name does not appear to mean anything particular in Spanish or the Quechua language spoken in Bolivia.)

Have I mentioned one of my favorite facts that just MAKING the fuel for an ICE is about as polluting as completely fueling an EV on a moderately clean grid?

After years of testing, USDA has just approved releasing GMO American chestnut trees, potentially giving us the chance to bring back an iconic species destroyed in the early 20th century by an imported disease. (Chauvinistic note: I've had American chestnuts, and they are better than European ones.)

things have changed a bit in Paris since the pandemic— Notre Dame looks squeaky clean, l'As du Falafel fell off hard—but it all pales in comparison to the the total victory in the War On Cars car traffic has been crushed and the city is so obviously better off that nobody could possibly complain

Solar hits 25% supply of electricity on yesterday's cool, sunny Sunday morning. Matches fossil gas & coal for a little bit. On the MISO grid, which serves 45 million people across the center of N. America. #EnergySky ...

Also me: Apr '24 "MISO pushing 10% solar on spring weekends" May '21 "Solar exceeding 1% of the MISO grid. Probably not the first time, but the first time I've been able to catch it live. Cool temps, no clouds, and low weekend demand." Guesses where MISO will be for cool, sunny Sundays in '28?

My friend transformed a tiny strip of lawn grass into a pollinator paradise with native plants accumulated from hither and yon. You get one shot... why lead a sterile life? (featured: caterpillars of the Milkweed Tussock Moth)

Friend is shopping hybrid vs EVs. Didn't realize he had variable electric rates. Charging overnight (11 pm - 5 am) his fuel costs would be 83% less than gas in Indiana... so think $0.56 / gallon. #DoTheMath #EnergySky

This is as true about political content as it is about everything else. "What people are talking about" is not the result of spontaneous distributed decisionmaking, it is the result of the conscious efforts of specific human beings. You should always be asking, why this & not that? Who benefits?

EVs are the marquee climate subsidy. They also have one of the lowest returns per dollar spent. New MVPF analysis: wind production tax credits deliver $5.87 in social benefit per $1 spent. Residential solar: $3.86. EV subsidies: $1.45.

I wasn't aware that the USDA program had stalled out... hopefully this can get going again!

Encouraging news came this week of a reinvigorated program to restore blight-resistant American chestnut. If successful, this would be the biggest news for our eastern forests since the chestnuts were wiped out before 1950. This is reason for optimism.

Absolutely insane that Cape Verde — a country of 500,000 — played Spain, Uruguay and Argentina…and lost to none of them in regulation. Easily one of the greatest performances in World Cup history.

First 10K miles (to me) review. 9 months. Plug-in hybrid. It has an electric motor/battery and a gas engine. Small EV range of 30 and gas range of 495. Despite the tiny EV range, it covered 50% of the 10K miles on electric only... #EnergySky

...Bought 203 gallons of gas, thus avoided 203 more. Not intuitive, but "daily miles driven" shows how even a small battery range, when topped off every night, can cover a lot of miles. Time for an oil change!

One of the things that’s obvious about Trump is that he has no long-term memory, no ability to say “This didn’t work before so I should try something new.” So when he talks about striking/invading Iran it’s often because he’s drifted back to the idea of threats, despite it previously failing.

At the risk of stating the obvious: when reactionaries say elections are "rigged," what they mean -- in their hearts, in their guts -- is that their opponents are illegitimate and it only counts if they win. That's what they've always meant.

When people get upset with younger generations for posting videos in the middle of an emergency/ disaster I think about photos like this. You might not like it, but documenting your disaster experience is not unique to one generation -- we've always done it to the extent that technology allows.
