The airwaves in NYC are saturated with political ads right now. One uses this ‘insult’: Carpetbagger which Merriam-Webster defines as A Northerner in the South after the American Civil War usually seeking private gain under the Reconstruction gov’ts Do folks not realize this is New York?

NYC has:: roughly a factor of 10 for air pollution death by virtue of car and truck in addition to that bloody sort of the truck-car v person street violence. Someone please say you’ve done this analysis in everyone’s hometown and have made a map for that.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

I really don't think most people appreciate how much damage air pollution does to our bodies & brains. Even in the last 10 years the science has progressed a ton & everything it has discovered is *grim*.

The easiest way to save lives on our streets: lowering the speed limit to 20 mph. Comptroller Mark Levine, the City Council's Transportation Chair Shaun Abreu, three borough presidents — Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Antonio Reynoso, and Donovan Richards — and 17 community boards all agree.

Together with other scientists I’m suing the 🇺🇸 US National Institutes of Health for violating our 1st Amendment rights & censoring our health science. I’m ready to shine a light on the darkest days. Buckle up, read on. This gets pretty wild… THREAD

ACLU@aclu.org

By terminating research grants like Kelton's to censor views it doesn’t like, the NIH is blocking scientists from work that would advance public health for all of us. We're pushing back. Tell Congress to demand the NIH restore the grants and stop its censorship campaign at aclu.org/nih_censorship_

❗❗❗Mark Zuckerberg's meta just suspended the No Kings Instagram account. I just rushed back from my local No Kings to jump on this. Bottom line, would be helpful for all pro-No Kings folks to elevate the issue and help us get the word out about No Kings today. The Nerd Reich strikes again.

The Anthropocene started in 1952 - it can be easily dated by the isotopes from nuclear bombs. While the influence of humans may have started earlier, there is such a dramatic uptick in green house gases at this time due to the Great Acceleration.

Syracuse is tearing down the I-81 viaduct that split its city for decades and replacing it with a street grid that reconnects the neighborhoods the highway cut apart. If Syracuse can rethink its highways, so can NYC.

It’s Minerals Day for Earth Science Week so I thought I would share one reason why I adore minerals: the colours!! I love the deep red of this rhodochrosite from N’Chwaning mine, South Africa. #MineralMonday #GeoscienceBluesky #MineralsDay #EarthScienceWeek ⚒️🧪

I think we are dropping our @citibikenyc.bsky.social membership this year. It’s not worth it. Yesterday $24 for upper east side to Inwood is an indictment. It’s cheaper to take a cab.

"There was a Hell Gate story last month about the Lyft-owned system’s increasingly high profits (followed up yesterday by Gothamist, which reported on the company’s back-door price hike in the form of slower e-bikes that cost more)." nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/09/25/f...

Coastlines in the #NYC metro region are flooding today and over the weekend due to Nor'Easter Nolo. Our infrastructure -- even BRAND NEW NYC -- is not prepared for sea level rise. We aren't even well prepared for flooding from this Nor'Easter.

As an aside: I went to an AgenticAI&Climate event as part of Climate Week It asserted AI-agents make hypothesis testing is now SO EASY b/c they do all the hard work; you just ask ?s I tried all the suggested resources that could answer the prompt "were the tides unusually high this morning in NYC"

Just doing a bike lane instead of pedestrianizing the rest & making it the East Side’s High Line would be a big missed opportunity (especially w the MTA digging up Park Ave in the 40s & 50s for a decade+)

Look what my colleague found. Happened in my neighborhood: a charter school opened and gridlock when 65% of kids arrive to school by car. This in a neighborhood where 2 of 3 households don’t even have access to a car. 👀 🧐

One of the last projects I set in motion before I left @wearepossible.bsky.social has finally borne fruit: the School Run Cruncher! TL;DR? YES, it does indeed look like school run traffic to private schools is disproportionately responsible for morning rush hour congestion. You’re welcome!

This awful story of two high school girls killed by a truck driver who failed to yield and turned into them is awful. Worse is reporting emphasizing they were riding two on an electric citibike- as if a single kid on a traditional bike would’ve had any different outcome. This story gets it right.

We’re counting on the City of New York to fix this chaotic intersection to make it safe. That means turn calming, protected bike infrastructure, and a protected bike intersection to prevent crashes and tragedies like this from ever happening again.

Cities should be paying people to bike. Cities should be buying people e-bikes. Cities should be rewarding people for convincing neighbors to ride bikes. Every trip by bike is a net financial gain socially. And it compounds, the more people who do it.

The world has made real progress in steering away from some of the darkest climate futures where global emissions doubled (or more) this century.
