LPT: Instead of waiting to get sick to take antibiotics, you should spread out your treatment by taking super small doses of antibiotics every day. Make sure to regularly switch which ones you use so all the bacteria will eventually get killed by something! There's no possible way this goes wrong!

When I die and pass on my belongings, I will put them all on a Stein manifold. By Cartan's Theorem B, the cousin problem is always solvable in this setting. And they say sheaf cohomology has no practical uses!

If Cherenkov radiation is as dangerous as they want you to believe, why is it such a pretty color? This primal force far beyond my understanding is enticing me with its beauty. Why should I ignore its call?

I'm dying laughing at how the cat has conformed to her flower shaped bed today

So excited to back this game, it looks so cool!

It's live! If you're outside the US, there are partners you can preorder physical goods through, thank goodness. If my fellow Canadians couldn't back it I'd be heartbroken! www.backerkit.com/c/projects/e...

> looking for a new voting system > ask designer if their system is pareto-inefficient or a dictatorship > she doesn't understand > pull out diagram explaining Arrow's Impossibility Theorem > she laughs and says "it's a good voting system, sir" > use it > it's pareto-inefficient

99% of C++ standardization committees stop right before they design the perfect language feature that everyone will immediately adopt. Maybe C++29 will be the one...

*shakes magic 8 ball* "You're absolutely right, and that is a fantastic point!" *shakes magic 8 ball again* "Excellent correction. That's entirely my bad. The correct answer is..."

A silver lining from the Navier-Stokes OpenAI/Buckmaster+Apolge drama: maybe the cranks will stop using AI to develop their "theories" out of paranoia, and we'll return back to the good ol' days of human-written garbage crankery. Cranks used to have character! Now they all sound exactly same.

Monopoly features 2d6 dice rolls, makes heavy use of metanarrative currencies, is tailored heavily to emulate a specific genre (ruthless capitalism) and encourages emergent character-driven conflicts and narratives. Therefore, Monopoly is a PbtA game.

A watched pot never boils. The water inside does, of course, but a large percentage of stoves are not hot enough to boil metal. And if your stove is hot enough to vaporize pots, then you probably should avert your eyes.

Sometimes, TCP packets get lost in transmission. TCP accounts for this, simply retransmitting the data. But have you ever wondered where the originals end up? It turns out, these packets without a home get routed to a weird place between places. A strange address only known as THE ACKROOMS.

It's well known in physics that an observer falling into a black hole would become stretched and elongated by extreme tidal forces. It's less well known that a similar phenomenon occurs with some black bears, as pictured below.

(this joke is probably somehow factually incorrect. if you're an expert in quantum field theory please correct me in the replies to this post so I can more easily pester you with questions later when I try to go through Peter Woit's book again)

In the far future, today's history will be long lost. The few surviving relics will be utterly alien. Among the most arcane is the 83KiB incantation near the start of all omninet communications: "User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 53.0; Win64; x256) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko)..."

I'm scrolling back through my posts. Most of them are incredibly bad and often niche jokes. I think that my quest to become internet famous may be hindered by my inability to be actually funny. On second thought, I'm just gonna blame everyone else for this. Please stop suppressing me, or else.

Recently remembered a helpful mnemonic I had for learning about OS semaphores: The "P" operation makes the semaphore go uP, and a "V" looks like down arrow and so makes it go down. Then remember that synchronization is evil and only exists to cause suffering, so it's actually the other way around.

Compiler goes to programmer. "Programmer, I am in rough shape. Mutable references abound and the tiniest changes break API compatibility." Programmer replies, "The treatment is simple! Rewrite in Haskell and GHC will sort you right out." Compiler bursts into tears: "But I am GHC!"

Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease is good for TCP congestion control, but apparently you will get tickets if you try to apply it to road traffic :/
