Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

High streets are an important part of modern Britain. It's where afternoon drinkers go to get interviewed by news reporters for their views about immigration.
The British syndrome, summarised: 78% of us say our high streets are important to us. But only 28% of us actually use their local high street even once a week – and only 53% of people said they used theirs *once a month*. We won't use it, and we won't lose it.

Grim scenes in Brazil (thread)
I haven’t slept a full night in three weeks ahead of the polls opening in Brazil today. I might be shouting into a void here, but if you can spare a few seconds to send good energy towards our elections today and for the largest country in South America to beat fascism, please do so. 🇧🇷

In which it turns out The Go’Betweens’ ‘Lee Remick’ came out in the same week as ‘Radio, Radio’. This has completely done for my understanding of things.
Singles reviewed by Tony Mitchell in Sounds 21st, October 1978 including Elvis Costello and the Attractions 'Radio Radio' and Gang of Four's 'Damaged Goods'. @gangoffour.bsky.social

once again I'm posting Harold Wilson's "Little Things That Mean A Lot" memo and list because I genuinely think a lot more politicians should have a copy of it pinned up next to their desk
People who complain that Burnham is "wasting his time" on things that are very easy and low-cost for the government but make a significant difference to people's everyday lives don't understand politics imo. If this was all he was thinking about as prime minister, sure, I would worry, but it's not

I mean it’s not a vetting problem, is it? It’s that it’s a racist party, run by racists, with racist policies, for the benefit of racists. The fact that it turns out to be full of racists is not a glitch

Lou Reed - "Robert Quine once made me a tape of all of the Burton solos from Ricky Nelson's records." HR Enterprises recreated it on YT. One commenter added "The first 4 mins not at all James Burton leads - Barney Kessel & Joe Maphis." Fascinating. youtu.be/yniPSrAbZlI?...

The whole Arday scandal and the reaction to it makes perfect sense when you assume that, for those responsible, the death of a young black person of some modest prominence and influence was a good outcome, they're glad it happened, and would like to do it again.
God, these people are such fucking pricks. He’s dead. This is dancing on a grave.
