Speaking as a Minnesotan: Somali Americans make my state richer, more diverse, and better. These disgusting and appalling attacks from the right are bigoted, evil, cruel, and un-American. They are personal attacks against all Minnesotans, and all Americans. They are attacks on our way of life.

Mark Jacob@markjacob.bsky.social

I’m alarmed that more people aren’t alarmed by Trump targeting Somali Americans and labeling them “garbage” and “crooks” who “contribute nothing.” Most of them are U.S. citizens, yet Trump says, “I don’t want them in our country.” If you know history, you know the horror this can lead to.

These so-called Republicans are also coincidentally the same people who love to say, "if you don't like the way it is here, you can leave." But, curiously, they don't leave. They just actively make life worse for everyone else.

"They're trying to cut open the bird to find the song" is one of the most poignant things I've ever read. Also what the fuck IS a moat? (Aside from the ditch around a castle?)

these are my only feelings about generative "AI." i do not care how much it "works," ever. i'll be over here scraping charcoal and ochre on the cave wall until they kill me

The “super intelligence” thing is useful in the sense that if someone calls AI that you know you are dealing with a TURBO bozo

Incredible work by Mother Jones. An eye-popping statement from Cornell that amounts to intense public gaslighting–that interrogating their response to this horrifying assault "will perpetuate the underreporting of sexual assault." And a timely nod to the administration repealing Title IX.

Editors of the Cornell Daily Sun condemned administrators for creating an academic environment where “enough ambiguity, enough he-said-she-said, enough familial connections, enough money will allow you to get off scot-free.”

This thread essentially 100% encompasses my feelings about the situation: even if I wanted to use AI in my workflow, it would make my workflow and results more derivative, damage my subjective process, and/or take away what I enjoy about what I do. None of that is what I want out of a tool.

Rory Blank@roryblank.bsky.social

I saw a post earlier saying I need to integrate AI into my workflow as an artist or I'll be left behind. Sure I've seen dozens of posts like this before, but I'm really seriously thinking about it now and I am at a total loss as to what it would possibly do to improve my work.

I was at a convention in Vegas this year and the most convenient food was a taco place with AI murals on the walls. I love tacos. Under normal circumstances 100% would have eaten there at least five times over the week. Instead my friends and I referred to it as "AI Taco" and ate there zero times.

How do I explain to small business owners that the menu on the left is one billion times more appealing than the one on the right

The widespread availability of self-driving cars will be a nightmare for cities. Thousands of empty cars clogging up roads delivering burritos when we should be restricting auto use and expanding public transport.

Also, SAY you want to open borders. Open borders generate more opportunity, more wealth, more freedom. Everyone being politically afraid of open borders is the direct result of running scared of Republican framing for decades. Nobody has made the obvious case in so many years they've lost it.

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

if an elite lobbying effort can convince you that you have to ban trans people from sports to survive in politics you straightforwardly do not have it in you to pass electoral reform, or stand up to the fossil fuel lobby, or do any of the difficult things that have to be done

The fact that VP JD Vance and Richard Grenell went to Romania—on behalf of the Trump Administration— to advocate for Andrew and Tristan Tate, who by all accounts, were rapists running a coercive sex ring, then permitted them to come to Florida, should be a crazy, crazy scandal.

Adobe removed the entire category of "Generative AI" from Acrobat preferences. Users are now forced to use all of these features no matter what. Their website still has an article entitled "Turn off generative AI features" that clearly shows a whole category of prefs that is no longer accessible.

The man was a warmonger; a psychopath, a sadist. He helped to normalize authoritarianism and sane-wash fascism. He was a propagandist working overtime to overturn our democracy. We should be denigrating that. Let the people know that their legacies will reflect their choices.

I am so, so tired of bad people getting a pass the moment they're dead. Their absence means an absence of the pain they cultivated in the world, and that is explicitly good. Public figures should be judged by the public according to their impact on said public. Lindsey Graham made our world worse.

Lots of people today discussing the celebration of death for those who cause suffering. In my case, I say I was relieved because the *only* things Graham ever brought into my life were stress and anger; the man's neverending apologia for war and genocide, his support of explicitly harmful policies.

I love when MAGA types publish a list of unambiguously good things as if they're unambiguously bad things. It's such a revelation of what fearful cowardly people they are. We live in times of radical abuses. We should all seek radical remedies. All I can say to this is Hell Yeah.

Quintessential Trump: In 2025, Trump axed the program to combat New World Screwworm, stating that they had "saved" $1.5 million a year. In 2026, the Trump announces a $1 billion emergency program to combat the Screwworm outbreak. $1 billion would have funded the old program for 667 years.

I opened Adobe Acrobat today and there is a straight-up advertisement for LinkedIn, Dropbox, and Logitech in the lower-right corner. I cannot close the ad; I can only click text that reads, "Redeem now." This is software that I PAY FOR.

Republican leaders and oligarchs are a demographic of psychos who built wealth & power off the system then took all credit for themselves to justify using wealth & power to ruin everything in pursuit of more. They are as embarrassing as they are abhorrent; as repulsive as they are evil.

Trump is preparing to release a fiscal year 2027 budget plan on Friday that will frame the GOP's midterm election message around a massive defense buildup, partially paid for by cuts to domestic agencies, health-care and other services.
