I have no idea what motivated so many people to buy copies of null this past week but I am grateful to them. I hope you enjoy it!

We can spend our lives debating the justifications (I more or less have); but we are wasting our time. What we need is a massive clampdown on the influence of money over politics, including lobbying transparency, campaign finance reform, an end to the revolving door between politics and lobbying.

Great news for a client! I can (and indeed do, as you’ll see from the press release) heartily recommend this novel. As Cheryl notes, I did my book doctoring job on this, but it was basically a light edit on a book already at an eminently publishable standard.

Well this sounds fantastic. I'm picking up shades of Robin Jarvis, one of my favorite childhood authors, which definately gave me a taste for dark fiction. I can't wait!

Hal's comments were very helpful. I do recommend him in his book doctor/editor capacity.

This year has been brutal, and like most people you probably want to do more about climate change. But what, and how? Great news – I’ve written just the book for you! It’s called What One Person Can Do and it’s a clear and simple how-to guide, a roadmap to help you make influential changes...

For real. "grok made up a target and we merc'd the wrong dude and now it's nuclear war" is million million times more likely then "chatgpt becomes self aware and decides to kill all humans"

Am enjoying the dialogue in 'British Goblins' by Wirt Sikes. "The farmer, though much terrified by this sight, preserved his calmness sufficiently to go at once and see old Catti, the aged crone... He found her crouching over a fire of faggots, trying to warm her old bones...

... 'And how do you do the day, Catti Shon?' asked the farmer. 'Ah,' said old Catti I'm wonderful well, farmer, considering how old I am.' 'Yes, you're very old.'"

Re: Roko's Basilisk. I propose we make a general pact that all simulated consciousnesses of tech bros and billionaires (also Rowling) are to be pirated, torrented and widely distributed for eternal torture on local machines unless they start behaving now.

Screenshot cropped to disguise the fact that it's also number 400 and something in the kindle free store — by carefully choosing very niche categories, a book can reach the top ten with only a few sales a day. Or, only a few books given away to book hoarders who don't read. Pyrrhic.

Interventions like this are only going to grow more common. You can't alter the weather one place without impacting other parts of the world. There will be international incidents, conflict and even war over shit like this. www.independent.co.uk/climate-chan...

Ireland could face a near-term breakdown in our ability to import food as #climate impacts pummel global food chains, yet despite importing 80%-plus of everything we eat, we are woefully unprepared & complacent. My report in @irishexaminer.bsky.social today. www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

It is very important that one engages with one's opponent in the marketplace of ideas. When someone is arguing with bad faith to incite stochastic terrorism against you or others, remember to remain polite, logical and cite sources to substantiate your argument.

Genocide continues as the systemic rather than systematic; becoming a second or third-order effect gives it psychological distance — laundering it as not noteworthy or the fault of some Other.

Someone hated their free copy of Principals so much they went out of their way to one-star it on both GoodReads and Amazon. What could inspire such vindictiveness? I don't know, read it to judge for yourself!

Sure, the law is a tool for protecting us all from harm... (contrast this with all the uncharged cops who carry out illegal surveillance of their exes, assault their partners, kill their partners)

I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

I join you from the Blaenavon wildfire in Southeast Wales, brought to you by BP, Shell and Equinor. Though it does not look dramatic, the fire has been out of control for days - for a very particular reason. 🧵
