your intermittent reminder that the left/right axis is a spatial metaphor, not a reality, that the "centre" is not in fact a moderate middle ground but rather the *centre of power & privilege* protected by the vulgarly overt antisocialists operating on behalf of the polite paternalist antisocialists

His turn as Bester in Babylon 5 was one of the best things about a show jam-packed with *very* good things.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Haverin, our GSFWC anthology, has escaped from its carefully constructed shonky cardboard box and is currently rampaging through my front room, threatening to inconvenience the cat. Only if you give us all the money by buying a copy can we prevent this unforeseen circumstance from happening again.

I do however remember joking when the smoking ban came in that all of us with undiagnosed whatever who self-medicate with nicotine were going to go off our trolleys from having to at least cut back, and now I'm kinda looking at the UK and US and repeating the mantra, it was a JOKE, it was a JOKE...

to be clear, I am not expressing nostalgia for the days of everything stinking, I am just being paranoid that the rampant nicotine use may have been keeping the rampant lead poisoning in check

tonight's tea is peri-peri & liquid smoke marinated ribeye, chips tossed in smoked paprika and garlic powder before airfrying, and edamame beans that I have not decided how to season for extra zing yet. they're freezer beans so just getting boiled, but I wanna tart them up *somehow*

I ended up going with a little butter, gochujang sauce and lime juice for the edamame beans and they were delicious

more absolute froth-mouthed curtain-twitching. this is the worst kind of weirdo having a meltdown because little Kimberleigh respected her Physics teacher Miss Botheringnon's pronouns except Kimberleigh isn't even her fucking child and she's been given a megaphone instead of a restraining order

Janet Murray is now publicly harassing a random trans woman for choosing to get gender affirming surgery, and her real life friend for donating some money towards funding it. Janet works for the Telegraph and the Mail. This is the state of British journalism. Harassing people for being trans.

fine, fine, so the English aren't "culturally and ethnically" British then, and they can fuck off into the sea because Denmark won't want them back, I suspect

A.V. Deggar@avdeggar.bsky.social

And there you have it. The wheel spins as it should.

meanwhile I'll continue to maintain that Scottish identity is a matter of initiation ritual like Richard Harris joining the Sioux in A MAN CALLED HORSE except where he got strung up by the nipples here you really just have to get pisht with a Scot and really YOU don't even have to get pisht yersel

English ethnonationalism is so steeped in the blood and soil bullshit, of course, my Richard Harris Principle comes off as a joke, and sure it's a bit of an exaggeration, but anybody who lives here gets to vote for the Scottish parliament & shit, it's not full citizenship but it's a fuckin principle

new theory that "curious" became a synonym for "weird" because people kept saying "they're curious" of people with curiosity and the terminally incurious warped that to a "they're curious" meaning "incomprehensibly unusual" transferable to "that's curious" for weird anythings

Matthew Dow Smith@matthewdowsmith.bsky.social

So... somewhere around 5th Grade, I realized not so much that I was weird, but that most other people weren't all that interested in much of anything and that they tended to think I was weird. I was oddly fine with that. Still am, to be honest.

the terminally obtuse have given "obtuse" a bastardised meaning hybridising "abstruse" and "obscure" so that their inability to understand gets blamed on the incomprehensibility of whomever or whatever they're dealing with, don't tell me they couldn't have done the same for "curious"

"a lens through which to explore three decades of profound social, political and technological change" yeah so cover the TESCREAL AI sex cultists and the other mad fanfic weirdo who sparked Russia's war on Ukraine, BBC, I fucking dare you. along with the bioessentialist shitshow of her hack writing

Bat Krown 🦇🎃@katbrownwrites.com

The irony that the BBC blurred out the Protect the Dolls slogan on a Strictly contestant’s tshirt for their social accounts as “political” but will happily dedicate a two-part doc to the woman who uses her billions to fund lawsuits to persecute transgender people www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...

I mean you *could* do a two-part documentary on Rowling that actually *does* unpack her neoliberal class eugenics fantasy and how it rotted the brains of an entire generation of the chattering class, paving the way for the resurgence of fascism, but it's not gonna be Adam Curtis doing it, is it?

Rod Serling voice: From the terror and pity of earliest tragedies to the slapstick pratfalls of modern comedy, human drama has taught that "pride comes before a fall". Palmer Luckey is a man who has not learned that lesson, does not believe in poetic justice, in the idea of "tempting fate"...

there should be "truth in advertising" regulations for political parties where they have to submit their policies & if the name doesn't fit they're not allowed to call themselves Labour or Conservatives, they have to rename themselves as the Neolib Fascist Party or the Sociopathic Egoism Party etc..

"no, I'm sorry, you've not been about 'conserving' anything since the days of Margaret Thatcher, only the Wet Conservative Party (formerly known as the Lib Dems) gets to use that label now, it's either the Sociopathic Egoism Party or the Posh Cunt Corruption Party, take your pick"

People you would back the fuck away from if you ended up stuck talking to them at a party should not be setting the political climate of their fuckin front room let alone the country, their significant others should just be snapping, "Sit DOWN, Jeremy!" and they should be shutting the fuck up.

People always go on about Turkish barbers and how they must be money-laundering fronts. And idk maybe they are, but I suspect some of it is that white people don't have an equivalent third space in which to socialise and the idea is very alien to us.

"You go to those neighbourhoods and there are just people hanging out!" Yeah, like, people do that. People spend time with each other. It's called society.

Hell Dunkin reposted

Not necessarily the main point here, but I do think there's an interesting sociological thing where us white people, because our culture is just taking over other people's cultures, can't handle the way that non-white people socialise and always assume something sinister is going on.
