Every Halloween, our block opens up the street and the kids put on a costume parade, there's hot chocolate and cider and a few hundred people hanging out in the street. It's the most wholesome, lovely event 🍭🍬☕🎃

This year, you could feel the closeness and the sense of love, more than years past. ❤️ Also, there was a mechanical bull and free, delicious tacos. My neighbors are the best. I love Minneapolis. #Minneapolis #SouthMinneapolis

I should have mentioned that my office is Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services. The Mayor's budget eliminates seven staff members less than two weeks before an anxiety-inducing midterm. No more high school election judge program. No more voter outreach.

When the mayor's proposed budget eliminates half our office, we fortify ourselves with baked goods. Yesterday it was pastries from Dahlia. Today our colleague baked for us.

I worked one shift at the University Dining Hall at the U of MN freshman year and never went back (never went back to work, did go back to eat every day for the rest of the school year). The older kid, maybe a sophomore or junior, working there bet I wouldn't come back and he was right 🫠😂 it sucked

On my way to the Roosevelt High School meeting regarding school closures ("transformation" according to some). I'd love to spend this perfect evening outside, but MPS continues to disregard student well-being, so I'll be in a HS auditorium instead. #StopSchoolClosures #investinkids

I'm a Mom and an ESP (Ed. Support Professional) and I spend a lot of time helping kids be ready to learn. The start of the school year is especially hard, adjusting to new schools, teachers & routines is hard and takes a lot of time. It takes patience and hand holding and reminders and stickers...

The people in support of so much upheaval have likely never dried kids' tears in a school hallway, classroom, lunchroom, playground, etc. They don't care about the social emotional toll this will have on our children. I'm so thankful for everyone pushing back against this, fighting for our kids.

Well, you'll all be reassured to hear that the admin who put out this plan (to close 16 schools and move thousands of kids out of their current school) said "fear and anxiety was never our intent. They also acknowledged that they hear us, so 👍

The RHS Auditorium was filled with parents and caregivers, students and educators who are in support of keeping our school communities in tact. Public schools bring ppl together in a special way. We were all reminded of how much stronger those bonds got during Operation Metro Surge.

Took the train through downtown, then biked to my NE destination, biked back the scenic way. I love how easy it is to pull my bike on the light rail, especially at night when my tail light is dead!!

Council Member Aisha Chughtai says, in terms of safety, autonomous vehicles do not solve what is fundamentally a street infrastructure problem.

Radical centrists will talk all day long about (disputably!) high teacher pay bankrupting MPS but will never talk about giant MPD raises bankrupting Mpls …

A rushed and reckless plan to close 17 schools is the last thing our district needs right now. Our children are our everything, and they deserve a district that takes its time, engages with families, and builds a plan actually rooted in the needs of our community: not this.

Tonight MPS announced their "Transformation Plan" which will close schools and move school boundaries, uprooting thousands of students. The *students* will suffer, lose friends, lose connections. Kids were just shuffled around during the CDD, just 6 years ago.

This is how you bury bad news: call closing schools "optimizing the footprint" and bury people in 100+ pages of charts, graphs and maps that are too small to read.

MPS loses money every time a student enrolls in another district. They didn't mention trying to attract the thousands of kids who live in Mpls and attend charter schools.

Just last year, the MPS finance dept announced huge mistakes that caused schools to miss out on millions of dollars of funding. Fixing problems like this wasn't mentioned in the Transformation Plan.

There is a parent (robot?) advocating for more tech based homework for elementary school students and they're getting eaten alive in the comments section. Parents/caregivers of 5-11 year olds overwhelmingly don't want mandatory screen time homework for their kids... This should be obvious

Might share some screenshots later, but I'm gonna go play outside with my kid, thankful he's not stuck inside on his tablet doing homework after a 7 hour school day.

It genuinely blows my mind the degree to which people in power do not grasp (or just refuse to acknowledge) that encampments are preferable to shelters for a whole lot of people, for a long list of reasons.

Mayor Her says the whack a mole strategy would've worked if they'd brought more mallets.

Former school secretary here, asking my fellow parents/caregivers to stop calling the school office with every tiny little question you have. Yes, we all want to know who our kid's teacher is, but it's not an emergency. Poke around on the school portal for 5 minutes and you can figure it out!

The one secretary is enrolling new students, onboarding new staff, dealing with supply, key, room, tech, etc questions from 30 teachers, scheduling the principal's meetings, balancing the school budget and so much more!! Those jobs are so undervalued, understaffed and underpaid. Give them grace!!!

Today at the fair I asked a volunteer at Amy Klobuchar's booth what Amy thinks about ICE and she stumbled through a non-answer before saying "I just don't want to tell you the wrong thing." IDK y'all I think not having any kind of platform is kinda bad! Her lawn signs don't even say she's a DFL'r!

Bucky's Super Video in Bay View, Milwaukee, WI. They had a little plastic playhouse right in the middle of the store that my sisters and I loved to play in.

A MN Legislator ask ppl to "make this a positive thing economically for Appleton, even if you don't agree with what's happening there." Is this not the epitome of selling one's soul? Absolutely abhorrent.

State Rep. Paul Anderson co-hosted a town hall forum on the Appleton Detention Facility — formerly known as the Prairie Correctional Facility — which will begin housing people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers later this year.

As an MPS Mom & educator (education support professional), PTA volunteer and Union Steward, I feel I can speak to MPS needs and we need leaders like Christin Crabtree and Becca Dryden!! They both have my strong endorsement.

I also strongly endorse e-bikes. I rode 12 miles yesterday, lots of stopping and starting, and the pedal assist is so nice to have. It's also great when I have a 50 lb kid and 20 lbs of groceries/beach equipment/school supplies in the cargo areas. #bikempls #ebike

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

This guy explaining that the budget reflects our values and we value the cops 20 million dollars extra this year, but parks (who serve youth in many capacities) will lose millions. Who does he really value?

Many kids do not want to have a conversation with a stranger or acquaintance. Stop insisting on small talk with my kid/student, they aren't interested. Don't take it personally, it's good for kids to have boundaries.

What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?

Progressives: Make big wins or get really close in primary elections Moderate Dem Influencers: "You lefties don't know anything and here's why you need to listen to us" Can we just celebrate without the patronizing Moderates speaking down to us, just for like a few days?

Spouse on the DFL Senate primary results: “Angie Craig voted to open the door and let the bad guys in, and no matter how sorry she was, we weren’t gonna give her the keys again.”

You love to see it. Flanagan with 334k votes and Craig with 225k 🎉 I've been refreshing this page for an hour, and it's been a consistent difference of about 10,000 votes. I happily cackled to myself and my sleeping dog when I saw this. Congrats, @peggyflanagan.bsky.social

Senate primary here in MN tomorrow. Peggy Flanagan wants to dismantle ICE. Angie Craig supported a resolution thanking ICE for their service. Wants to reform ICE. Voted yes on Laken Riley Act, then said whoops. Given what’s happened here in 2026, it’s not all that complicated a choice.
