UK Chancellor pledges cheaper marmalade and gherkins in pre-Budget package of 'everyday fixes'. Fiddling at the edges. Need redistribution of income and wealth. End profiteering in housing, energy, water, essentials. Increase tax personal allowance.

People are tired of feeling that politicians work for big corporations - like banks - and not to make life better for the rest of us. It’s time to set the stage for a different way of governing. If the Chancellor chooses to #TaxTheBanks tomorrow, we'll be off to a good start. bit.ly/TaxTheBanks
It's time for a cost of living Budget - people need and expect the Chancellor to go beyond 'everyday fixes' tomorrow.

How sad for “the markets” that they didn’t get the vicious thug they clearly wanted. The “markets” hate democracy & yearn for a world of dictators and bare-knuckle capitalism where the ultra-rich and powerful are free to prey upon the rest of us. www.economist.com/leaders/2026...

In the last few weeks i've been bombarded with emails from people who have minor tech support problems. ChatGPT is telling them to email me, writing their emails, and compiling "evidence packets" after convincing them they have stumbled on a major story: www.404media.co/chatgpt-keep...

There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters: 1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence 2. They want to the GOP to win

Seriously, if this is the best Burnham can do after months of going on about how he's going to be The Cost Of Living Prime Minister he might as well not bother. It's actually insulting to fly flags like this saving us a pittance against economic headwinds that are costing us thousands and thousands.
I've just renewed our mortgage with our fixed rate from early 2022 expiring and it's costing several hundred pounds more every month now. Our weekly shop has gone up by £200 a month too. So thank God the Chancellor is bringing in a raft of measures that will save... *checks notes* £2 per month.

They knew burning oil was making us sick and heating the planet — but lied to keep doing it. They knew plastic could get into our bodies — but increased plastic production >200X since 1950. There is no question Big Oil CEOs are mass murderers. The question is: Are Big Oil CEOs serial killers?
🚨"Internal memos among company scientists and executives obtained by The Times reveal that for at least half a century, the plastics industry has been aware of and concerned about the potential for microplastic contamination in the human body."

Even though these are national and global layoffs, one should read its timing as Microsoft’s effort to stop WA’s millionaires tax, as right-wingers will blame that tax for these layoffs despite there being no actual connection.
