There was an episode of book mice on TVO where the mice read a book about fairy circles and goblins, and I remember that night trying to go to sleep unsuccessfully, while the white doorknobs on my closet doors glowed at me like eyes from across the bedroom. They'd never looked like eyes before.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

A third thing that could be true, we don't know yet: there's a scene in the movie where creating the trailer is a part of it, and there's some elaborate shenanigans where the copy editor is an actor who doesn't know how to copy-edit.

Two things can be true. 1) This is a good trailer! 2) A24 should proofread its ads. Unless “you think you you” know you’re not making any mistakes.

Absolutely enormous respect to whoever understood that the necessary follow-up to “what if Reacher faced a larger man” is “what if Reacher held a tiny kitten”

Every time you check out a library book instead of ordering from Amazon, ask a friend instead of an LLM, cook a meal instead of ordering from an app, or go for a walk instead of scrolling social media, you interrupt the cash flows of insane CEOs. Do it! Ruin their day!

omg they released the first art for Kat Sandler's Yaga! (that new Hudson Williams and Noah Reid and Carrie-Anne Moss show! And Kat Sandler with a show based on her play!!!)

This one is the comics crossover that had the biggest impact on my life. I read Tarot professionally every week, and have for over three years now. Never would have picked up a deck if I hadn't read these comics. When people ask "why did you start doing Tarot?" it's fun answering "x-men".

#EventsDearBoy XXV. X OF SWORDS (Marvel, 2020) As part of its general itch to do things that hadn't been done in mainstream comics, the X-Men's Krakoa era featured a string of unusual events, first of which was this wildly extended (and fairly divisive) fantasy romp

If you are a kind, thoughtful, cis man who has sex with people who can get pregnant, live your values and get a vasectomy. Half the world carrying this burden alone is wrong. Do your part.

I'm sure it happens all the time, probably as frequently as people discovering Naomi Klein/Wolfe are different people - but until seeing this post, I thought the pod save america Jon Favreau and the Iron ManDalorian Jon Favreau were the same guy.

YES. If you throw a big party, provide name tags. Plenty of people don't know each other yet, or have met before but forgotten names, or just heard the name and immediately forgot it. This is an easy way to help your friends befriend each other. slate.com/life/2026/06...

Here is my Jane Yolen story, which I suspect is a pretty common one, or at least a variation thereon. I grew up on her books. One of my earliest memories is my dad reading Commander Toad books to me at the South Bend public library. Then I grew up and got a job in comics publishing. (1/)

I love this song. Feels like a fun mix of emo style verse meeting Paul Simon chorus. I saw there was a new single and was like "oh, they're still making music?" and then I was like "oh, this is my favourite new song of the year and I'm listening to it constantly." Am I a Death Cab fan now?"

Heigh-ho got my vote. I enjoyed the pick-axes as percussion at the beginning. I think that phony king of england works in the movie as a viral spreading tune, but played as a track on its own I don't find it pleasant.

The Ultimate Walt Disney Animation Studios Songs bracket is rolling along with a new vote today! Do you pick a bouncy number from the original animated classic or a raucous group number from a cult favorite? docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

I haven't seen Moana 2 and enjoyed Beyond more than I thought I would - but it can't hold a candle to Little April Shower. Nostalgic memories of learning it on the piano, plus fun playful instrumentation makes this an easy vote.

Time for another vote in the first round of the Ultimate Walt Disney Animation Studios Songs bracket! Today, a song from Bambi faces off against the big number from Moana 2. What gets your vote? docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

paninis weren't a thing until the 1980s! they were invented in the '30s but only became popular in italy during a youth trend. cool trendy italian youth in the 80s were called paninaros and they were rebelling against eating mamma and nonna's home cooking by hanging out at the panini shop

Why can we never have fun food discourse? Why aren't we talking about the fact that Ciabatta is younger than Beyonce?
