The Danse Macabre was a Middle Ages art style that depicted dead people from many social classes dancing in a graveyard or mimicking human habits. It represented how death eventually comes to everyone. Such dances of death were believed to happen in graveyards on Halloween. #FairyTaleTuesday

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Not only that there are many artists who enjoy drawing porn and they shouldn't be ashamed to sell it and charge what they're worth. Shaming sex workers who star in porn and artists who draw porn just makes things more dangerous for them and hurts their livelihoods.

The Other Happy Place@theotherhappyplace.bsky.social

I think artists and sex workers should have a natural allyship. Both of us are often told we should not be allowed to charge for our work if it is at all pleasurable. Both of us are wanted for what we can do, but our work is considered not worth paying for. We should stick together

This week’s main story is about how more and more white nationalists, antisemites, and Nazi sympathizers seem to be integrating into the Republican Party, how some of them are currently running for office, and how old you can be for JD Vance to consider you “a very young boy.”

A revenant is a spirit that possesses the bodies of the dead, sometimes their own, sometimes others. Originally the term was used for ghosts. Something drives them back to life, and fiction loves a good revenant story like The Crow. #SpookySunday

Master of mythological arts, J.C. Leyendecker is most famous for his men, which is no mistake given Leyendecker's preference for them and using his own partner, Charles Beach, as the model for many of them. Despite this, he was an equitable artist. #MythologyMonday

The Welsh equivalent of Samhain is Nos Calan Gaeaf, a day much like Halloween. Stones are left at the bonfire with your name on it, facing the fire: if by morning it burns away, you are safe. If by morning your name remains, you are fated to die in the next year. #FolkloreSunday

I think this must be true for everything. I spend more time than I should looking at AI comics. They have so much going on in the backgrounds. Much more than any artist would be willing to draw by hand. But also, a real artist would know that all those extra backgrounds are a waste of time.

Before Robert E. Howard wrote Conan the Cimmerian into existence, he went through a period in the late-20s/early-30s writing stories with Irish protagonists, especially Conn, Turlough Dubh O'Brien, Cormac Mac Art, Cormac FitzGeoffrey, and Conan the Reaver in "The People of the Dark."
