Jfc Spider-Man might genuinely have the most unpredictable movie franchise Since the first reboot announcement, ya never know what Sony will do next Even now, idk where it'll go after BTSV and MCU Peter/MJ get back together. I kinda know what the next decade of Superman and Batman movies look like

I suspect Spider-Man is team leader in Zdarsky's Avengers for a couple of reasons: 1. Marvel gets to promote their new Avengers run 2. Marvel PR can recover with Spidey a bit 3. It's a way to get Zdarsky on Spider-Man without the baggage him and others at Marvel associate with being an ASM writer

It’s just so appalling and enraging how casual and commonplace this has become. I’m out of words.

Blatant racism. Get rid of all these fuckers. Anyone who speaks like this shouldn't hold power. Period.

Yet another entrenched authoritarian defeated yesterday in Serbia. As the United States approaches a critical midterm election, Serbia shows that we can win despite uphill authoritarian conditions. It can be done. It takes all of us, especially young people. Timothy Snyder

Michael Brooks was ahead of his time...Something I realize more and more the older I get For years he said Israel will be the model for rising fascism in the West, and Lula in Brazil will be the model for rising socialism...in the 2010s Please check out this man on YouTube if you haven't

You can tell Clayface started out as originally meant part of Matt Reeves' universe before becoming part of Gunn's DCU I'm okay with Reeves Batman not being part of the DCU anymore as long as the DCU Batman is just as much of a detective. Clayface is too good of an actor to not do a detective story

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

HOLY SHIT I LOVED CLAYFACE This is Sony's shitty villain spinoff movies does right. Doesn't feel like a superhero thing at all. Doesn't feel like some cringe AU either (the way Joker kinda did) The two leads were great All the body horror stuff is great and I buy him becoming a villain at the end

Having thought it, I think only about 10 major misconceptions exist for Spider-Man at this point in the zeitgeist as of 2026 (list can always change in future years): 1. Peter is socially awkward post-bite (legacy of Raimi) 2. Peter is plain / not attractive (legacy of Raimi and nerd stereotypes)

10 years ago there were many misconceptions about Batman - that he is crazy, unstable, aggressive and/or an asshole Now it feels like everyone is returning to a Morrison/O'Neil take (Zdarsky, Absolute) or thinks they're making him grow out of those traits for the first time (Reeves, Caped Crusader)

9. Green Goblin being thought of as a split personality and in general being seen as a blank slate when compared to Joker and Luthor or even Doom and Magneto 10. The symbiote in general, and its relationship and obsession with Peter being unknown to everyone except 616 Spider-Man comic readers

Some of them I feel died out in the past few years: 1. Peter can't maintain a secret identity 2. Demon Goblin is more realistic than 616 Goblin Others don't count as misconceptions (Peter shouldn't be married and should always be 18) 'cause only the BND editors and writers believe those LOL

6. Aunt May being seen as useless / annoying (thanks to her never outgrowing her OG characterization until JMD and JMS in the marriage era but then being retconned into Stan Lee Aunt May again by OMD - the adaptations aren't much better) This is the main reason everyone thinks May should die btw

7. The idea that The Bugle is dated because it's a newspaper (The Bugle is Marvel's New York Times...The NewYork Times has online subscriptions now and is too institutionally important to go away...Problem solved jfc LOL) 8. JJ is right-wing like Alex Jones (JJ is a critique of maintream liberals)

3. Teen Spidey is a certain way (legacy of Bendis + ageist attitudes making a comeback) 4. Peter is a bad photographer (legacy of "Ain't no way a 16 year old can take photos that good". Normalized by Bendis + some recent 616 writers) 5. MJ not being MJ (legacy of major adaptations changing her)

Certain takes on Batman, like in The Dark Knight Returns, are still misunderstood But Batman in general? Honestly? Not bad I don't even think his assholeness from the Arkham games or the later DCAU would happen today Now if we can just clear all the misconceptions with Spider-Man and One Piece 🤤

Billionaires throw a fit at the idea of an annual wealth tax... but literally everyone else already pays one via property taxes (either directly as a homeowner or secondarily as a renter). The only reason securities aren't taxed the same is because that's where the rich keep most of their wealth.

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social

“The borrowing let Ellison keep his stock and avoid locking in taxable gains, and highlighted how billionaires often employ a strategy called ‘buy, borrow and die’ to retain their wealth without selling assets.”

Dumbest scene in Superman 2 is when Zod and Ursa are in water and they go "what is this liquid?" Uhh, water? You don't have WATER on Krypton? The basis for life and y'all don't have it or know of it?

It's been 40 years since The Dark Knight Returns, and it's even more misunderstood than Watchmen This Batman was clearly a radical leftist reacting to 80s Corporate America So many accusations of "fascism" here come from liberals who could never tell the difference between far-left and far-right

Due to the American Left being gone for so long and lying dormant (kinda like Bruce here before coming out as Batman again), this book never got the reassessment it deserves Miller's later politics made things worse If this book came out today and we could read it cold, we would call it woke

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

As a Canadian, this is one of the only things about the US that gives me culture shock Canadian culture in Ontario is very similar to American... except this shit I can't wrap my mind around living like this. No one here can imagine living like this. Everyone wonders how Americans just allow it.

Unpopularity alone does not bring down authoritarians. This is the part where they make desperate plays to maintain their power, and those moves are either successfully resisted or not.
