Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I'd be surprised if the studio is shut down.

So.. MS just went through and gutted a bunch of their own studios to cut costs etc. But now they're going to pick up the latest very expensive Kojima experience? Good for KojiPro and Physint sure but couldn't like, MS's own studios have used a little of that investment or something

When a new game comes out and people say "it's like a PS2 game!" it's gonna take a little more digging on my part to find out if that means it will appeal to me less, or more

When you buy stuff on eBay, and the seller lists the item condition as "Like New," but it's actually shown to be in kind of mediocre condition.. does that bother you? Is that common on ebay? List something as Like New for the condition tag but it's actually a scuffed or scratched up thing?

Ah they switched their "everything is an Xbox" campaign to "everything is preservation."

been spot checking my physical game collection to see if anything doesn't work any more. Good news is vast majority work just fine. Bad news is that Persona Q for 3DS is dead! Apparently I got one from one of the "bad batches" that basically dies within a few years.

Did anyone ever have this? I have never seen one before; honestly never heard of it before yesterday. This is a replacement power cord for an OG Xbox. Apparently it avoids a loose connection issue regarding the power supply/cord. Is this an actual thing?

"transforming Game Pass into a bustling indie library could work to both rapidly shrink the costs of running the service, as well as retain more subscribers" IMO the primary reason Game Pass failed to hit its subscriber targets is because the mass market simply does not care to play lots of games.

I’ll allow myself a mini-crashout, since I’m still a bit high from anaesthesia So every AAA game is Duke Nukem Forever now, right? Like, why can’t a multi-bajillion dollar company make “a” Prince of Persia? You guys used to crank out one of these a year 20 years ago

PSA on the topic of physical games.. if you have a Gameboy collection, and any games require a AA battery for some neat features like rumble (example: Perfect Dark GBC), you might want to go and check your cart and remove the battery and hope it's not completely inundated with battery acid

What was the contingency plan here when they put all this money on the line. Was there one? The thing that really gets to me is how they seem to treat this creative talent as entirely expendable. Miss me with the "that's just business!" counterpoint!

It's messed up. A giant company with massive resources, and no real clear idea what it's doing, can buy up a ton of talented studios to gamble them on an uncertain business strategy. And then when the strategy fails, those studios and that talent just gets.. tossed out? That's the play? Jesus.

I keep seeing the posts but is there a source for the news that id software will be (forced to) use Unreal Engine going forward? Or is it kind of a speculation because Microsoft gutted that legendarily awesome studio and so it is assumed that such a forced error would be Microsoft-worthy

MS really wants to gut the studio behind one of the most performant and impressive engines out there? One that they don't have to make external licensing deals or rely on outside partners to work with?? Is MS leadership even considering long term strategy here at all??

There was a while, long ago, I thought AAA publishers would continue to *embrace* physical copies because it meant they could sell $100+ Collector's Editions of stuff and make even better profit margins; and thus encourage the continued production of physical games. As an added revenue source.

When I designed the assets for physical copies of Cosmic Star Heroine for PS4 & Vita, I made the manuals as big as allowable per Sony. They hold the record for the most pages of a packed-in manual for both systems at 76! (it's technically a tie with Summon Night 6 iirc). I love doing this stuff!

And while business-wise discs may matter little to AAA publishers, indies often pour love into their physical releases and however niche the sales there-of may be, it matters a LOT more to smaller devs/publishers!

Been away from the PC for a while, but the news about Sony discontinuing disc production is a disheartening one. There's a lot of good reasons to buy a disc, with the data fully playable on it, and to own it! I love my game collection!
