Liberal political junkie who enjoys fiber arts and painting rocks. Heledd in the SCA (Northshield). Small blue dot in the sea of red that's South Dakota. Old woman who mostly yells at the TV.
No clue why some of the people following me are doing so.
Here goes an introduction attempt:
I'm a lifelong Democrat living in a state that's getting more conservative by the day. My main hobby is SCA which is often rightly described as a hundred hobbies in a trenchcoat. As such my main interests are spinning, cardweaving, cooking, archery and heraldry.
This sums up why they are trying to build data centers in my state -- it's easier to run roughshod over one couple on a rural road than it is to run over a large city of thousands.
It's still evil.
If Bluesky has taught me nothing else, it has taught me it's okay to block assholes.
Blocking them on Facebook is making me happier.
I'm willing to have a polite discussion. I'm not willing to be insulted.
We're aware of a phishing attack that has compromised more than 4,500 accounts.
The attack spread through posts promoting a fake offer of a government payment. We have temporarily suspended the compromised accounts and are working with their owners to secure them and restore access.
Banning a booke ys extinguishing a beacon. Banning a booke ys silencinge a thousand voyces speakinge yn the heart. Banning a booke ys refusinge to looke at the stars. Banning a booke ys damming a streame of feelinge and invitinge flood. Banning a booke ys making a violent litel shryne to ignorance.
This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
Why does grief always hit me unexpectedly in the middle of the night?
Just under 2 weeks ago my ex-husband died in a far away state. After the initial shock I've been mostly okay.
Except around midnight. Out of nowhere I break down without warning.
Auditors observed election mail at 14 processing facilities and 73 delivery units and found significant flaws in the handling of ballots.
In some locations, management wasn’t familiar with ballot processing requirements.
An AI flyer is a brown M&M test. If your event or business is cutting corners by using an AI flyer, where else are you cutting corners? What else are you cheating out on? Why should I be bothered to go somewhere you couldn't be bothered to promote with a little of your own personality?
104 years ago, on the 13th of September 1922, the Straw Hat Riot began in New York city. A tradition of taunting people who wore straw hats after summer had ended escalated when a group of youths started to attack factory- and dockworkers, who fought back. #otd#history 🗃️
The activists were sentenced to about 5 to 7 years in prison in a case widely seen as a barometer of the city's eroding freedoms as Beijing clamps down on dissent. n.pr/4xSyAzY
I think this has become my week when I'm finally through with being polite to Republicans and conservatives online. I've gone off on two of them on Facebook in two days.
I miss the old me when times were calmer.
1) So today I didn't yell at clouds, I Facebook yelled at a guy who was telling people who didn't like my red state's politics that we should just move one state over.
I'm sorry, but I was born here, raised a kid here. My mom was born here over 100 years ago, her parents homesteaded here.
2) Her grandparents moved here sometime between 1900 and 1915. My dad moved here over 80 years ago during WW2. My entire family is here and has been for decades.
I don't appreciate someone saying I should move because I vote blue, especially when his roots here are probably far less deep than mine.
The fireworks display last month at #MountRushmore cost the state of South Dakota $450,000 more than the event generated in economic impact, according to the state Department of Tourism. buff.ly/c11PjUY
I really recommend the 2022 documentary “It’s Quieter in the Twilight,” which profiles the scientists working in relative obscurity to keep the Voyager spacecraft operating—many of them past retirement age, but unwilling to quit until the Voyagers do. It was very sweet and thought-provoking.
Experts say immersion in cold water before an ambulance arrives can greatly increase the chances of heat stroke survival and reduce the risk of long-term complications.
Do not meddle yn the affaires of wyzardes, for thei will knocke upon thy doore and aske yf the paintinge of a barbarian fightinge a dragon on the syde of their van ys awesome or not, and so surprised thou will be that thou wilt doubte thyne owene judgemente and the poor wyzard will wayte, awkwarde.
I contacted a journal in my field when I found "myself" cited with a fictional work in their journal. They replied that it was not editor's responsibility to call the author out on that, and I should contact the authors directly.
And, as a journal editor, I call that BS.
The fact that we almost did not get this movie about a little guy taking on a corporation focused only on profit because the studio decided to axe it for short term profit is frankly too much for me right now.

Their goal is to create so much chaos and so many crises that it starts to feel like nothing you do makes a difference. Don’t believe it. Every action matters. Keep showing up and remember the resistance will prevail!
79 years ago, on the 8th of July 1947, reports were broadcast that a UFO crash-landed in Roswell, New Mexico in what became known as the Roswell UFO incident. The debris had actually come from a military balloon part of a top secret program to detect Soviet nuclear tests. #otd#history 🗃️
JANE AUSTEN: “It was an earnest, steadfast gaze, but she often doubted whether there were much admiration in it, and sometimes it seemed nothing but absence of mind.”
ELIZABETH, sweatily: Why does he keep staring at me with that stupid look on his stupid staring face, staring stupidly and facely???
