Canada could absolutely do this. Instead, we get Carney and Ford pushing pipelines.

A nation cannot build a prosperous future on the exhaustion of its people. When workers are beleaguered, productivity fallsβ€”not simply because people work less, but because they have less of themselves left to give. It's why more of those who work are coming to food banks. #LdnOnt

I’ve spoken to many reporters who are frustrated that even though they sometimes mention that the extreme events they’re reporting on are due to climate change and make the link to fossil fuels, people get upset when they don’t. The solution is to mention it every time, even if it seems repetitive.

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

I grew up in Jackson Heights in Queens and we still had a car, and our lives got measurably better when we did.

There is a way of thinking taking hold in this country β€” that building a stronger Canada means walking away from our climate commitments. Abandoning our climate commitments will not make Canada stronger. You cannot build a stronger country on the ashes of its communities.

Incredibly brazen for the Prime Minister to boast about the β€œlasting benefits” of expanding fossil fuel production on a day like today. Record-breaking heatwaves. Toxic smoke engulfing cities and towns. Out of control wildfires forcing entire communities to evacuate. /1

I love having a prime minister who completely buys into the tech industry’s framing of AI, such that he’s throwing billions of dollars at AI companies and pushing more Canadians into relying on their shitty products. To him, the core issue is β€œengagement and adoption,” regardless of the drawbacks.

Carney has announced a new AI strategy to ramp up adoption of the tech-bro-touted technology in a way that he says β€œserves all Canadians.” But BIG questions are lingering about how this aggressive ramp up will play out in a world where data centres guzzle water and destroy the environment:
