I highly, *highly* recommend these books, truly excellent folklore-focused romances that are so beautiful that university theses have been written on them

Running late today, but here's your quote from Breath and Bone: "You - you were - you're a _horse!_" That was Barris. "Do we have time for this?" I asked. "No. Um, no, my lady?" Ebook sale on now at the usual places including www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/...

Word of mouth matters! (And wouldn't I love to see the movie...)

@aegtx.bsky.social Was it you who recommended the Astreiant books? Because I haven’t been able to get anything else done since I started reading them. I’m even looking forward to having to spend 3 hours on buses tomorrow!

Love these quotes! (And don't miss the attached sale.)

K.V. Johansen@kvjohansen.bsky.social

Breath and Bone quote, day 6: "Um," I heard. "Um, sir, my lord, I think Godling Thallyn wants you to come with us. If-if you don't mind, my lord." And then when he turned that molten stare on her, [...] "It's just a sword and your sister needs you." And he gave a huff of laughter and bowed.

Quote from Breath and Bone, day 3: '"Ah, Jinn," Hedge said, and rose to her feet within the shadow of her brother's wing. Whole, he was, unwounded, the terrible damage of their father's wrath, the horrors of his death, not to be seen. He spun the spear, leaned to bump her shoulder with his...'

Today's adventure at the dump involves wasps - specifically, the Wasp That Would Not Leave. I had dumped my trash and my recycling and was climbing back into my car when the wasp flew in with me. I promptly rolled down the window. The wasp left - and flew right back in.

I waved cautiously at it, hoping to suggest that it fly out again. It did - and flew right back in. We did this again. And again. Finally, I opened the door, and it left for good. Not sure what that was about, but it confirmed my feeling that Wasps are Weird.

Oooh, this looks excellent!

So much this! I play guitar very badly. Our "band" couldn't put together the 20 minutes of passable music needed for a gig at the town's worst venue. But the moments when we did hit a groove were so incredibly satisfying. It was worth all the frustration.

Melissa Ann Singer@masinger.bsky.social

ya know, I play the recorder. I have played it on and off since since childhood. started with soprano, now play alto. I stink at it. I love that I have to work hard to sound good. when I sound good, when I play something recognizable, I'm so fucking proud of myself. I DID THAT! I MADE MUSIC!

Seriously, though, the trash can has a lid tight enough that the raccoons haven't managed to open it. How are prey insects getting in there? This isn't a small spider - it's as long as my thumb, so about 2 inches overall.

I love Asimov's Science Fiction and the magazine's editors. I've published many stories in the magazine. I subscribe to the magazine. Despite that, I'm done with the new MRM owners. This statement is BS. The new owners have squandered the goodwill of their magazines' readers, writers, and fans. 1/

was just listening to this again, still need to read BURNING BRIGHT by @blueterraplane.bsky.social

Success! I spoke to a person in the Anthropic Settlement Ops office and they corrected the allocations for me. I emailed the supporting documents and I think I'm good. Also, the person I spoke to was genuinely helpful - made the process much easier than I'd feared.

Does anyone know of someone at Baen and/or Tor who is handling the Anthropic claims for them? They've both claimed books of mine on which the rights reverted 30 years ago. (It's pretty obviously a mistake, but it would be easier if they'd help fix it.)

Melissa Scott reposted

If you're wondering why authors are getting so rabid here: First Anthropic stole our books. Then we got denied compensation because of US unjust copyright law and publishers failing to meet their contractual obligations. Then publishers and agents apparently claimed author shares. Now this.
