Difficult to explain, as a Brazilian, what I'm feeling. The fight isn't over. It can NEVER be over. I understand it now. But tonight I could fucking sleep for once.

AI is getting more powerful, more cheap, and more energy efficient every single day. We are now to a point where leftist organizations and groups who are committed to minimizing their environmental impact can safely and effectively use AI that isn’t run by or made by big American tech companies.

dame@dame.is

just on the front of software, it means that leftists and leftist orgs can/should be leveraging agentic workflows to create alternative software to rely less on big tech and embed custom software across their campaigns/activism in a much deeper way than ever before possible

One of the ways we need to change the discourse around AI is to stop constantly centering Big American Tech/AI Labs & their CEOs. When I speak about “AI”, I’m speaking of general-purpose technologies that can be applied in many ways. I’m working towards an AI future that isn’t Sam Altman’s vision.

it would be a net-positive for everyone if OpenAI and ChatGPT ceased to exist

Those who can completely “opt out” of or be least affected by societal change of this scale are those w/ privilege. This isn’t a condemnation, but it’s to say many militant anti-AI leaders are fostering an environment that will result in *less* privileged people being more negatively impacted by AI.

My take yesterday was intentionally inflammatory, so here’s another version: AI isn’t inevitable. It’s here, pervasive, & not leaving (much like the internet). We need to adapt & chart a new course, learning how to best use it for good, not evil. Many can refuse/disengage, many can’t & shouldn’t.

dame@dame.is

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

Solidarity with children requires listening to them—really listening. Pushing them out of spaces or refusing to speak to them outside of settings you dictate as acceptable places for them to exist is not solidarity. You must abandon the comfort of adultist control.

Very good point and very much part of the right’s social media tactics in Brazil, too. Two or three days before the polls opened, several Twitter accounts posing as leftists began lamenting Lula’s inevitable demise and parroting messages of “it’s over.” Don’t fall for it either.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

the internet is real now. there is no "offline". the virtual and the real have intertwined intimately to become the hyperreal

Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.

Many people have had their voting places change to a WHOLE OTHER STATE, where they can't get to bc there's no flights Many also report having their name unduly marked as "not allowed to vote" as if they had legal hangups when they didn't... This is a straight up a thinly veiled hostile takeover

two side notes: 1. my dream is to see @inaturalist.bsky.social embrace the AT Protocol and become interoperable with the Atmosphere 2. the fact that people don’t typically think of things like iNaturalist as “social media” is part of why “social media” sucks

Yes it is canon in our real life that Yujiro Hanma visited Malcolm X and gave him Strength.

HokutoAndy 🤜🤜➡️ 🦶👊@hokutoandy.bsky.social

Malcolm X mentioned in his autobiography when he was very stressed, he prayed to Allah for relief and that night... While in bed, Malcolm X saw an "Asiatic" Man in Black appear by bedside as he couldn't move, watching him, and disappeared. He then had the resolve to deal with what troubled him.
