Utah lawmakers can raise taxes with a simple majority. If voters approve Amendment B, citizens who try it through a ballot initiative would need 60%.
Under Amendment B, 2018's voter-approved Medicaid expansion would have failed.
Amendment B explained:

1,080 new Utah voters registered Democratic *just last week*
2026 YTD (thru Oct 05)
🔵 DEM +12,504 (+5.0%)
🔴 REP -8,109 (-0.9%)
🟣 UNA +17,335 (+3.5%)
2026 is the first year on record in Utah where DEMS have outregistered REPS (never happened going back 12 years)
Same people who seem to think it’s bad for China to beat us at AI are perfectly fine with China beating us at high speed rail, solar energy, wind energy, shall we go on
There are a lot of people who think their parents got their brains destroyed by Fox News, but somehow they’re not getting their brains destroyed by staying on Twitter.
🚨 OCTOBER 17 — NO KINGS: VOTE EARLY!
With our democracy at stake, we're showing up again to promote unprecedented voter participation in the midterms.
Our goal is to translate the historic protest power of No Kings mobilizations into a massive wave of voter turnout.
Great segment by @thisamericanlife.org. Every engineer should get tested for ADHD or autism as there's a high chance of having it. Even if it's mild, just knowing helps your mental health.

The best HR training I ever attended was led by an ex-Marine.
I was the only non-man in the room. We watched the video demonstrating sexual harassment. A young guy piped up, “I just don’t see what the big deal is.”
The ex-Marine never raised his voice. He didn’t need to.
Twitter died a long time ago and X isn't worth it. Before I made the jump, my ego was holding me back. I was too concerned with vanity metrics. I finally realized if you're posting stuff people want to follow, then they'll follow you, even when you leave. www.siliconrepublic.com/enterprise/k...
I asked my daughter Beth: how do we get the AI excited about writing tests?
"First it needs an endocrine system."
The model has no enthusiasm of its own. What exists is us plus the genie. The caring part is still ours.
I’m exploring the mental health effects of AI coding. This is a super quick (blazing fast), anonymous survey.
Please fill out and share so that the responses will be well rounded.

One thing I am hearing that is top of mind for many eng leaders
"What are we doing to deal with this ongoing increase in code review load?!"
Everyone is seeing it, no one seeing a solution, but lots of experiments from better tooling to starting to admit code review wont scale
Potentially unpopular opinion but I feel like too many products are coming out that are already existing words.
We need to make up words more! Make your app become a verb someday! Make it easy for me to look up because it's a little weird! Get the dot com domain name early!
I'm getting tired of tech being broken. I need to do a transfer with my bank: the transfer tool doesn't work. I've been asked to sign a thing in an HR app: the submit button does nothing.
It's easy to blame AI (tbh, it's a likely reason), but damn folks, test your stuff before releasing things.
More and more people I deeply respect and have learned a lot from over the years feel like they are speaking into a void, to the point where they are losing motivation to continue making content, which got me to write my first post on my site in over a year...

Heartbreaking. And a wake-up call. It is no longer about being difficult to find a way to sustain yourself through your work online. It is no longer sustainable to keep a website up now. Axel has done so much for the web and all of us. Buy one of his books if you can. We've learned so much from him.
1/ I’m still processing what’s going on in tech at the moment. I used to feel at home in that world. It used to feel incredibly creative and positive. Now it’s increasingly full of bugs, dark addicting patterns and AI slop.

Why does AI suck at front-end?
🗑️ trained on garbage
👀 it can't see
❓ it doesn't know why
🏞️ no environmental control
there's no human v20.2.1 to target. we're a LLM combinatorial explosion

Saw the new Super Mario movie today with the fam. Not as good as the first one but I still enjoyed it. Very much a fan service film that tickles this guy who was raised on the game series.
And if you're in #Utah, check to see if your name is on the petition to repeal Prop 4 so that we have the power to votes these 🤡 out!

. @martinfowler.com is pushing out some great content in his Fragments posts. I love this one:
"The Venn Diagram of Developer Experience and Agent Experience is a circle" - @lauratacho.com
This isn't the first time I've heard a sentiment like this.

LLMs are pretty great at emulating what it sees in the code base. If what it sees are confusing or inconsistent patterns or difficult ways to test or run things, its results are going to be sub-par. DX and code cleanliness still matter.
In honor of Rep. Trevor Lee going 0 and 12 for bills during the 2026 Legislature, I have composed this haiku:
Twelve bills, all dead now
Even your party said no
Ha ha, I can't breathe
UPDATE: The Davis County Clerk says they've finished counting packets and there are enough signatures to put SD7 over the threshold by 48 — AS OF NOW.
There are still removals to be processed and whatever changes come from the secondary review of those rejected signatures.
WILDEST finish to Prop 4 repeal!
GOP-led repeal group has met the statewide mark & qualified in 25 of 26 required Senate districts.
But they're 8 sigs shy in SD7.
Davis clerk says he has THREE packets left and "a pretty good bunch" of removal forms.
