I don't know why I bother correcting these assholes, because they'll just turn around and say "that proves the Nobel is biased, which is why the most wonderful Trump didn't win one" But LITERALLY LAST YEAR, OMAR YAGHI, A MAN FROM A PALESTINIAN REFUGEE FAMILY, WON THE NOBEL IN CHEMISTRY.

EV charging enters the MEGAWATT ERA. ⚡ China’s Geely has deployed new chargers rated at an insane 2,250 kW. Current test vehicles are already pulling ~1,100 kW: 🔋 10–70%: 4.5 mins 🔋 10–97%: 8.7 mins “EVs take too long to charge” is rapidly becoming an obsolete argument.

This @sfchronicle.com analysis seems extremely deficient & full of holes. Beyond that this UC Davis researcher quote is borderline offensive. COVID wasn't an example, it was a warning. Traffic fatalities spiked from 2020-2023. People were only able to stay home b/c of massive federal subsidies.

To better understand how proposed BART cuts could impact regional traffic, the Chronicle teamed up with researchers to simulate three possible scenarios for the morning commute.

I can't believe that any functioning adults are seriously considering "What if we COVID'ed ourselves by blowing up public transit, instead of paying a 1/2 cent sales tax?" (around $5-8 per resident each month, on average).

The high tide in Los Angeles set a new record this morning, based on preliminary data. San Diego tied (no pun intended) its record, but there may have been a data glitch. Slightly higher tides are possible tomorrow.

Anthony Edwards@edwardsanthonyb.bsky.social

San Diego and Los Angeles could experience record high tides next week. Model guidance predicts Monday’s tide in San Diego being 2.5ft above a typical high tide. Tuesday will probably come in around 2.6ft, which would be the highest in San Diego history. Record tides are also possible in L.A.

It's a new Stone Age in London, with stone apartment buildings and a stone demonstrator exhibit showing how it's done. Because it is silly to grind up limestone, cook it, and then add water to turn it into... stone. We could be doing a lot more of this in Canada- we are made of rock.

America's Highway Trust Fund spends far more than it brings in in gas and truck taxes, and the US constantly bails the fund out from the federal general fund and by taking out loans. The Bay Area will pay ~$1.3B/year to bail out the fund yet again, starting in 2028. From @maxmautner.com.

The Bay Area does 1.3% of America's driving but pays 5.2% of the income taxes Congress now uses to bail out the federal highway fund. On Nov. 3, the same 5 counties vote on a transit tax that would raise less than their share of that bailout. 1/

Yeah, this man should not be allowed to practice law, and any failure to take away his ability to practice law after all of this would be a part of the end of the rule of law in America.

Blanche on CBS says his suit against Alaska is "asking the court to step in where the Alaska Supreme Court didn't, which is to look at federal law and if necessary to allow a process for Alaska to decide who should be certified as the winner." (So, the voters won't get to decide. Got it.)
