I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

I for one am not at all worried that the most powerful people on earth have optimized my society and my brain to be ultra-reliant on the misery machine we keep in our pockets.

this is an outgrowth of US political media’s obsession with horserace coverage. nothing is true or false and nothing matters beyond what will get someone elected. it’s deeply cynical and it allows them to elide the straightforward consequences of powerful people’s actions.

this from my piece on charlie kirk is probably the most important takeaway if you want to know why bad faith, right-wing voices in media are treated as just another set of peers

Everybody gamely says “Vance hosted Kirk’s podcast” instead of “the regime officially turned the major channel into state-controlled media just as it began its violent crackdown on any opposition or dissident messages.”

I used to read books like Lord of the Rings or watch movies like Star Wars and think the villains were unbelievable. And of course, now watching the tech oligarchs (who could not spend all their money if they tried) destroy civilization for power, I’m like, guess I was wrong. People are that awful.

3. When I could keep my eyes open for a few seconds everything was blurry and moving. My eyes couldn’t focus on anything, if felt like they were looking at separate things in my room. But somehow also the same thing. Idk, never had a side effect like that before.

1. Slept for most of that. 10 hours after I went to bed I was still so drowsy I couldn’t type out a single coherent text in under a minute. I couldn’t keep my eyes open, as in they would be closed and my brain was functioning so poorly I wouldn’t even know at first.

The amount of pills I take a day as a “healthy” person is genuinely annoying. 5 in the morning, another 1-3 at night. Cuz why would my body want to bother making the right amounts of serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, estrogen, androgens, and cortisol when store bought works almost as well??? 🙄

Why is it so hard to find artists that aren’t pieces of shit? Seems like for every Terry Pratchett or Weird Al there are 10 Neil Gaiman or R Kelly.

Journalists lost legitimacy with the right, and in their obsession with Both Sides, decided the only path forward was to balance it out by losing all their legitimacy with the left

I was in a cowboy bar last night and this dude dropped the f slur. Reacting with disgust works so much better than reacting with anger. Anger makes them indignant, disgust just makes them feel icky inside and that has a much higher chance of sticking 😈

Resolution Copper is blocking comments and hiding replies from anyone calling out what they’re doing at Oak Flat. They’re trying to mine on sacred Native American land, with the government’s help, and don’t want the public to push back.
