Holy shit, we're actually getting there. "UCLA researchers develop low-cost blood test to detect multiple cancers and other diseases from a single sample [—] In tests, MethylScan detected about 63% of cancers across all stages and roughly 55% of early-stage cancers." (from April) #ShareGoodNewsToo

Agreed, though it’s worth noting that the current batch of wildfires are a product of lightning (natural phenomenon made worse by climate change) and cuts to Canadian and US forestry services (which perform controlled burns to prevent major fires). This is a yes/and situation, as with most things.

Still shocked by how many people think invading Venezuela would be “good for them.” Like it’s a gas coupon war. This is for the 1%, not you. No cheaper gas. Just richer billionaires. Absolute morons.

When Mom’s stocking is empty, the message is clear - While everyone else’s stockings are hung with care, Mom’s is often the last to be filled — if it’s filled at all. Why? For many families, moms are the magic makers of the holidays, but so often their needs can be overlooked.

No. What. No. I just heard a podcast Christmas advert for Hotwheels cars that said "With Hotwheels your child will build, fail, and try again, cultivating the Growth Mindset they'll need" What in the neoliberal hell

This is incredible- every last bit.

An Illinois man was arrested after trying to impersonate Sammy Hagar: “He said he was on tour but needed to cash a royalty check,” a bank teller told police. “He was wearing red sunglasses and smelled faintly of margarita mix, so I thought it was actually him.” www.mystateline.com/news/illinoi...

Thank you, concerned activist Sarah from Illinois. If you see this, I’ve already turned in my ballot voting to retain the Supreme Court justices. I had it ready to go before your postcard arrived, and I dropped it off with the county ballot box this morning.

I am getting absolutely SPAMMED with mailers and texts about voting No under the guise of “term limits”- deceptively avoiding any political motivations or speech. Eyes and ears open, PA. If you don’t want to become even more conservative as a state, vote YES.

Adam Bonin@adambonin.bsky.social

"A GOP-affiliated PAC is sending PA voters a mailer warning that the state Supreme Court 'gerrymandered our congressional districts to help Democrats win.' The issue? The pictured map was not drawn by the Court; it was drawn by legislative Republicans and thrown as an unconstitutional gerrymander."

my father-in-law is a “I know a guy” Guy. sadly all the old Guys are aging out of the Guy Economy. Guys are fundamentally incompatible with Hustle Culture because it’s not about “winning” a deal, it’s about collecting favors and goodwill in a mutually-beneficial cycle. protect your local Guy Economy

Inflation rose by 22.6% from 2019-2024. In that same period, the 100 lowest-paying corporations paid their CEOs 34.7% more. Worker pay didn't even keep up with the rate of inflation. Those corporate tax breaks will never, ever, ever trickle down. WE ARE BEING SCAMMED.

We are teaching kids that kindness is NOT people pleasing. You can be kind and set boundaries. You can be kind and say no despite someone else’s feelings. You can be kind and advocate for yourself. You can be kind and disagree with people.

Are the mRNA vaccines incredible? YES! Are the mRNA vaccines perfect? No. Have the mRNA vaccines saved millions of lives? YES! Can we make the mRNA vaccines even better? YES! Can we use mRNA vaccine technology to prevent and treat many other diseases? YES! Fund mRNA research!

Let me get this straight- you picked up a bottle labeled “not for human consumption”, gave it to your toddler to drink, and then contracted a bacteria from your sick child that spreads from inadequate handwashing and sanitation. And your next logical move is to try to sue everyone?

I enjoy economics, but this remains one of the most interesting things I learned in my economics courses in undergrad. Once you understand this, you realize how many people don’t and it unlocks a different perspective on a lot of employment discourse.

Perhaps this is a good time to bring up the classic labor economics concept of the reservation wage. If you pay people too poorly, it’s not worth it to them to work. Either in lost incentives, loss of leisure time, extra expenses like childcare, etc- the costs outweigh the benefits.

We also see this in anti-vax spaces. What used to be a stance held only by insular communities has expanded to those who want to avoid public health responsibility AND STILL be welcomed by everyone else.

once again, it is a core belief of people on the american right that it should be illegal for you not to like them or want to be around them or work with them

I know this isn’t a great era during which to suggest this, but we need a damn hand foot and mouth vaccine in the west. Even if it’s like a flu shot and you get one annually- it’s bullshit that kids just have to keep contracting this highly contagious illness and bringing it home.
