We are still dealing with extractive industries and their dirty legacies in this area. Acid mine drainage in Sewickly creek has been remediated. Immediately started getting frack water. Madness. I live 3 miles from this landfill. insideclimatenews.org/news/2302202...?

Remember folks like Doris when Republicans claim to care about waste, fraud, and abuse

Protect Our Care@protectourcare.org

Rep. Judy Chu: Doris died after nursing home neglect. Her family won $19M — and never saw a dime. The owner committed fraud, served just 3 months… and was pardoned by Donald Trump. This is what happens when health care fraudsters get a pass.

One of the wealthiest members of Congress telling Americans they don’t need insurance

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BARTIROMO: What is the GOP's healthcare plan? RICK SCOTT: Many times you can buy it way cheaper by just going directly to a doctor or a hospital or surgery center rather than going through the insurance product. Let them buy their own insurance.

He continues to talk about IVF in the creepiest way possible! WTF!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "The other thing is fertilization. They're trying to hit us on fertilization. They were dead on fertilization."

Almost everything I ordered from them was the finest piece of equipment or clothing I ever owned. Now I have a hardly used pair of wading boots that the felt soles fall off of every time I use them. Old simms would’ve sent me new ones or done a repair. New simms sends me a YouTube vid to fix myself

Bloomberg News@bloomberg.com

Fly-fishing shops across the US are publicly dropping Simms after a private equity roll-up and broader turbulence in the outdoor industry.

You better not cry, you better not trout, ‘cause Salmonid Claus is coming to town! 🎅🐟 On Day 10 of #25DaysofFishmas, we head to Arizona's White Mountains to meet the Apache Trout (Oncorhynchus apache), whose recovery isn't a #Fishmas miracle, but a result of over 50 years of people working together

The Apache trout’s steep decline in the 20th century - and eventual listing as an Endangered Species - was due to a combo of habitat damage from poor grazing + timber-harvesting practices and introduction of non-native trout species (which compete + hybridize with the Apache trout) #25DaysofFishmas

Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

CHOTINER: And you didn’t know this person - what did you call him again? CELEBRIMBOR GREATEST OF THE ELVEN SMITHS: Right, his name was Annatar but CHOTINER: And you taught him to create a ring harnessing all his malice and cruelty? CELEBRIMBOR: Well I mean I was deceived CHOTINER: So you’ve said

The follow-up should’ve been, “so your administration is a joke?”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

JD Vance: "On the free speech conversation, I'm pretty sure Jimmy Kimmel was back on the air last night, and to the extent he's not back on the air it's because he's not funny and has terrible ratings. This is not a federal government problem ... the FCC commissioner made a joke on social media."

if i were a pro-trump financial type i might view the destruction of reliable government data with the kind of anger and apprehension that might lead me to reevaluate my politics, but then if i’m a financial guy throwing my weight behind strongman rule, i’m already too stupid to breathe

This past week, the 79-year-old president announced he’s ended six wars (some that have been going on for centuries), asserted that windmills drive whales insane, called for Beyoncé to be prosecuted, claimed Obama committed treason and complained a convicted pedophile “stole” teenage girls from him.

I hope Pope Leo continues to speak against starvation and barbarity in Gaza and U.S. bishops continue to defend those targeted for arrest and internment here. The Church has a unique, non-ideological voice on behalf of the dispossessed and displaced, like Jesus himself was.

This week, I’m hosting The Daily Show Tuesday through Thursday. It’s my first time hosting anything on TV. Ever. I’ve spent years writing behind the scenes, learning from truly great and talented people. Now, for three nights, I get to sit at the desk and do it myself.

This morning's moonset (the wide angle) and the moonrise this evening in #Pittsburgh. Heckuva day to be out to capture the moon. Clouds on the horizon nearly spoiled both views, but all in all they worked out just fine.
