I code games, and play a fair number too. (Call of Duty 2/4/MW2, Titanfall 1/2, Apex, working on an unannounced game.) Here to see cat pictures and learn about whatever. Also to hear about cool games/music/books/movies I might have missed.

Yeah, UofU is a real rough neighborhood, LOL. Imagine being this much of a wuss.

Pat McAfee says he was "uncomfortable" during Utah College GameDay and alluded to the Charlie Kirk killing. This all comes after a school video of students commenting about him upset him. Also said he might not show up if GameDay goes back there. www.nytimes.com/athletic/772...

Anyway, _Olive Garden_ was the restaurant everyone went to but you made fun of people if they thought it was fancy. This concludes discourse.

LOL. Sam Altman is just going house to house trying to scare people at this point.

Keep an eye on your internet-connected ovens and lawnmowers. "Anthropic has warned that rogue “AI worms” will soon be able to hijack smart home devices such as ovens and TVs, creating a new cyber security threat that will be difficult to contain."

the gamer entitlement is fucking insane. they're yelling at a developer who has spent a decade of his time writing Dolphin and PPSSPP for using Claude to build a prototype. the same people who don't pay for their emulator, certainly don't pay for ROMs are entitled to bully developers now?

Yeah, this. I used to steadfastly avoid muting/etc. to not create a "bubble." But I recently broke down, and I believe not having to wade through toxic and stupid shit has given me _more_ mental energy to entertain reasonable counterarguments to my beliefs.

technical details for anyone interested in trying something like this: the rule family is orthodiagonal compare. the rule is [[0,1,0,0,1], [0,0,0,0,2], [0,1,2,0,0], [0,2,2,1,1], [1,1,1,2,2]]

procedural generation without procedural generation this is something like a traditional "rooms and halls" style dungeon generator, but it's pure cellular automata. no traditional placement or corridor carving algorithm at all! i've tried to keep post light- just a gentle orthoconnect pass.

“Bluesky is built on ATProto, which enables new forms of decentralized social networks.” “Oh, so I bet its users are big fans of new technology.” “Oh heavens, no.”

My first games job, around 2003, I took a train/tram for an hour each way, and had 3 or 4 of these loaded up with music. it was great; peak physical media in my opinion, or at least peak _portable_ physical media.

I wrote something like 100K words of weird underworld content for this gorgeously illustrated "tactical narrative" game from the creator of King of Dragon Pass, and that's only a fraction of the content... definitely worth a wishlist.

(It's not a major problem, sort of obscure, and within specific subrange, and I have no way of evaluating an alleged slop proof, and doubt anyone who can is going to want me to dump it on them.)

Wow. Mathematicians really going through it today. “We didn’t think that conjecture was true anyway, and counterexamples are boring and don’t teach us anything.”

I had Claude verify it, which Claude dutifully did. Claude also flipped out, thinking it was being tricked somehow or forgetting something because this is "one of the most famous open problems in mathematics"

ai food in these posters always looks like nightmare sequences in shows where someone will be eating what they think is delicious food but then they look down and turns out its maggots and other bugs

Actually a pretty cool game! Not great in terms of pure mechanics, but fantastic art and vibe. (The in-game art is better than the box art in fact)

Sources report he is expected to start wiggling in about three seconds and make a full recovery within five or six.

Critiques of AI saying "they only assess what answers are probable based on data" are not terribly convincing. If a majority of humans could do that, we'd all be far better off.

Since around 1995, every 5 or so years like clockwork I try out desktop Linux (because it seems like the kind of thing I _should_ be into, and "it's better now,") and I always end up getting derailed by some total BS. I used to go back to Windows, but now I go back to Mac.
