You may know me from having written something you’ve read. (Lots of Star Wars & Marvel, including LIGHT/TRIALS OF THE JEDI, Daredevil, Wolverine etc. Also my own stuff - THE LUCKY DEVILS, EIGHT BILLION GENIES, UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, SHROUDED COLLEGE…)

Nothing has given me more joy in life than things I’ve had to work my ass off to achieve. Everyone knows this, even fools. It’s baked into the human condition.

Fabulous trip to London is now complete - headed to Heathrow and then back to NYC. Saw and learned a lot. Most of it will find a way into this new novel, I think. Maybe not this beautiful thing I saw in Hyde Park this morning - but then again maybe so.

I’m in London researching an upcoming novel. On the list for today, my last full day here: -funky churches -lunch in Covent Garden with someone who “handles” things for people -a place called Peckham I will also sign some comics and buy chocolate (nothing to do with the book; doing them anyway.)

A thing I choose to forget until every time I visit London: Visiting London sure does vacuum up money. Specifically, mine. Constant sticker shock. (And I live in NYC!) ((It’s great here, though. The value proposition is pretty solid.))

Turns out Venom came out two days ago. I have no idea what day it is.

So pleased that VENOM #1 landed so well yesterday! To celebrate, I contracted with Venom Themselves to offer custom remarques on the issues at my webstore. It is going poorly! They are vulgarians and their art is mid! But if you want them (I just want them gone) go here: charlessoule.com/store

Huh - interesting question. Never done this before. Maybe something like: “I know you’re an elevator. I’m not sure you can read. But I’d guess you have a lot of time on your (non-existent) hands when your car is empty. If you CAN read, you could do a lot worse than my next novels!”

What's the elevator pitch for your next novel/novels?

On a train headed back to NYC after a triumphant release-day signing for Venom #1 at the magical @thirdeyecomics.bsky.social in Annapolis. How about a little q&a? Ask me anything!

Update: have been stuck on a broken northbound train for approaching two hours that I have been informed will be towed back to the nearest station. I assume the nearest station will somehow end up being Artist’s Alley.

Adios, NYCC, see you next year. This was a good, very intense one. Didn’t make it up to the main show floor even once. Other than panels, lived in Artist’s Alley the whole time. Or maybe “lived”

Unfortunately, I'm under the weather so I won't be at NYCC, but please check out the Lucasfilm Publishing panel on Friday at 11am & the Mad Cave panel on Sunday at 1:45pm. Both have amazing creators & reveals! And don't forget about our Forbidden Planet signing on Friday night. Have fun without me!

Not going to NYCC, but in New York Friday and still want to hang out and Star Wars with me and many luminaries from the galaxy far far away, we’re doing a free signing event at Forbidden Planet from 6-8 PM! Check it out!

New York Comicon starts for me, oh yes, that’s right - TONIGHT. It’s going to be a long one and I’m not sure how much of me will remain once NYCC opens to the public Thursday morning, but I’ll do my best. See you in Artist Alley, at panels, and out on the town. Can’t wait!

We cut school to catch an opening day screening of RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. Didn’t get in trouble because the school principal *also* skipped school for the same screening - we cut a Mutually-Assured Don’t Rat The Others Out™ pact… :)

Began the most terrifying month of the year by rewatching THE GUEST (2014) (which while not a textbook horror flick, is set at Halloween, so close enough.) Weird and charming picture by Adam Wingard, with a particularly good lead performance by Dan Stevens. 90s throwback delight.

So Venom Unchained #3 is out today, and another way to think about is Venom #0 leading into my run, which begins with an all-new #1 issue on October 14. Hope you enjoy!

‘Queen in Black: Venom Unchained’ #3 is an important chapter prior to Soule’s relaunch @charlessoule.bsky.social @juananramirez.bsky.social #Venom #comicsky Read @davidbrooke.bsky.social's review:

They should do an Erin Brockovich-style gotcha thing where she finds out her own grandkids are being educated in this “incredibly effective” system.

Linda McMahon: "AI is definitely a tool used correctly. I've seen it in action. I have visited the Alpha School in Austin, Texas, where they use AI for the first two hours every single morning. The students have their headsets on, they are watching their computers ... it is incredibly effective"

Great convention in Salt Lake City this past weekend. Biggest takeaway was that it seems to be a town of READERS. Sold out of prose novels, and moved a ton of graphic novels as well. Was gratifying! Collectors and even speculators are great - a fan is a fan - but readers will always be my favorite.

Off to Salt Lake City for Fan X SLC, a show I’ve never done in a city I’ve only visited once (briefly, years ago.) Looking forward to it - it’s a culturally unique place, and last time I was there I didn’t have much time to poke around. Plus I like mountains, and it has some. Mountains are GREAT.

Word on this one was “I’m not sure we can actually do this…” Which, honestly, means I’m hitting the target.

Working on Venom #5 tonight - end of the first arc. I have high hopes for this book. Really going for it with every issue storywise, trying to make it unpredictable and exciting. After all, comics ain’t cheap!

This is not so much due to the tech itself, but with the way humans deploy tech in general - a thing Kid Me was still too bright-eyed to see. For every nice thing droids might be built to do, they’ll also be built to do four terrible things, any one of which probably outweighs the one nice thing.
