I know the contexts are different, but Eby-ism failed, while Lula stormed to a comeback win tonight Lessons for the NDP going forward. In my humble view, Avi Lewis' vision for the party is far more Lula than Eby. That's a good thing.

One important factor in the BC Election was that the Conservatives did NOT win because voters surged towards them There was no BC CON wave. They got a very similar amount of voters as they did last time They won because Dave Eby failed to turn out the people who voted for him last election

Today broke grey and raw for New Democrats here in BC: last night was a body blow. This morning I’m sending solidarity and care to all the progressive organizers - within and beyond electoral politics - who have worked tirelessly over so many years in this province.

Under the CPBC, I expect BC will follow AB, QC, ON by aggressively privatizing surgeries, diagnostics, long-term care CPBC platform calls for publicly funded vouchers for surgeries and long-term care. This will expand the private for-profit health care industry #bcpoli

Two of the biggest fuckups in Canadian political history all in the last few weeks First the CAQ gets wiped out after breaking an electoral reform promise that would have saved their party Then Dave Eby called an unnecessary election that pissed off an entire province instantly

Liberals and Conservatives are rushing to pass Bill C-39 with little time to hear from Canadians and pass amendments. The bill gives cabinet ministers the power to declare entire regions of the country in which major projects can ignore virtually every environmental protection.

The right knows how to channel the legitimate rage of working class people. The problem is where they direct that rage. It’s not immigrants and trans kids making your life impossible. It’s the bankers and the billionaires with all the wealth and power. It’s time to put the blame where it belongs.

Bill C-39 puts foreign investors’ profits ahead of workers’ rights, environmental protections and Indigenous rights. Canada’s top scientists warn it will cause irreversible harm. So why are the Liberals limiting scrutiny instead of giving this bill the thorough review it demands?

As hundreds of Stelco workers face layoffs, the Canadian gov’t must do more to protect Canadian jobs & our steel industry. Workers need action, not just headlines. Enforce commitments, put conditions on public money, and protect good jobs. Public money must protect workers, not corporate profits.

OUCH. Bloc Québécois MP @patbonin.bsky.social absolutely clears the environment minister in this clip on Bill C-39. My translation: “It’s sad to see the minister who is giving the impression of wanting to convince herself that the bill that’s directly under her purview isn’t a disaster.

I'll say this: Nenshi should recognize that many of the people he represents in the Alberta Legislature overlap with NDP MP Heather McPherson's riding He should respect them, and not call them irrelevant

I asked @naheednenshi.bsky.social how he can champion pipelines when federal NDP Leader @avilewis.ca is against new ones Nenshi: "I don't want to be unkind but the federal NDP is really not relevant in Alberta. Nobody talks about them nobody worries about them" 🎧 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d...

Avi Lewis on 25% voting for a separation referendum: "If you had a referendum on whether people wanted to send a message to Ottawa that they're not happy with a very difficult life in Canada these days, you'd get at least that number or more in every single province. It's understandable."

Avi Lewis on C-39: "It's unnecessary, it's damaging, it attacks the rights of so many Canadians. I don't want to believe that the PM launched Bill C-39 just to achieve political peace with Danielle Smith. But if that was his motivation, then, oh, my goodness."

Avi Lewis: "The entire process was unnecessary. Nobody asked for it. Danielle Smith's career has been defined by a slow walk towards separation. All of the questions are designed to stoke division in Alberta, and she is the one who is responsible for that."

Conservatives and Liberals are working together to ram Bill C-39 through Parliament. They don’t want to hear from Canadians, and they are afraid to have their legislation scrutinized. New Democrats are standing up for Canadians whose voices are being ignored.

At a time when our country is under threat, it’s heartening to see well over a million Albertans come together to reject separation and choose Canada.

Things ebb and flow through history. There was a time when eastern Canada heavily subsidized the west, when the Maritimes were more developed. Now with some resources the west is richer But there's no guarantee Alberta will be a 'have' province in the future.

There is so much bait-and-switch in Canada’s “digital sovereignty“ (heh) strategy. Bottom line is that building out massive polluting AI data centres to host US tech companies is a form of digital colonialism: they control the tech & the profits, and export the dirtiest, lowest-value part abroad.
