I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

If it's the sound political strategy you claim to believe it is, what are you worried about, you'll more than make those lost votes up in disgusting centrists, right? Right? But you know deep down it doesn't work like that

I think subconsciously people register that this is the move of a juiceless replacement level mook and people saying they won't vote for them touches that raw fear nerve

It’s strategically counterproductive and morally repugnant AND the alternative is people who want to feed trans kids (and adults) to the wolves, put immigrants in concentration camps, shoot protests in the streets, and break the country like their personal piggy bank. What’s not to freak out about?😫

We’re left trying with one hand to get candidates to quit trying to sacrifice trans people to woo centrists who don’t care and trying with the other hand to get people to vote for their dumb asses anyway because the alternative is definitely worse.

Of course, there’s a difference between SAYING you won’t vote for someone, to try to influence their behavior, and actually NOT voting for them, when it comes down to it. But how effective is yelling that we won’t vote for someone if they know we’re bluffing?

Not to mention any time you actually try to convince people to vote strategically, they show up and start kicking over sand castles out of spite because they want to lecture those people, not persuade them.

A huge and largely unexamined source of this behavior is pre-emptive scapegoating. It comes from the subconscious fear that they've already lost, and the need to blame that loss on someone other than themselves. They're so used to losing that they play the blame game before the loss even happens.

I think that's part of it, but I think these people find it *particularly* offensive to be reminded of it by people see as their social inferiors... "how dare a trans woman correct me, a real white American who knows what's best for them?" Similar things happen with black people, immigrants, etc.

And every time you point this out, people can't help themselves but do exactly what you're describing right in the replies

Maybe if I put it like this: my argument is basically, "don't gamble with money you can't afford to spend." That nervous feeling you're having is telling you something and you might want to listen.

And part of that has to be the Dems defending trans people, or we'll just hear "they didn't lose because of that, they lost because of [insert a million other things]

Yes, once you've had just an inkling of what empathy and tolerance and those sort of concepts are, you can become a bit hyper when you perceive yourself betraying them, esp when you're trying to play the integrity card for votes.

this is also why people got so mad when people said genocide was a red line “oh you have ***values? how nice for you you selfish person,” and accusing ppl of “virtue signalling” etc

they are losers, tying themselves to a political titanic. they consider themselves brave for lying to themselves about how bad things are- surely, the ship will be fine. and if it's not, they will somehow be saved and they will make room on the lifeboats and credits will roll

but in refusing to risk anything and take a loss, they become the biggest losers possible. those who never, ever win. doing good work means losing a lot. it means failing. they are too cowardly to ever step up. worse, they get in the way of those that do. to call them useless would be too kind

There was a report not that long ago that even republicans have realised this line of attack doesn't work. Which is why they have so laser focused on rank gutter racism this last month and laid off somewhat on the anti-trans stuff. Yet, some dems are still bumbling into the bear trap for no reason.

Anti-trans sentiment is a luxury belief, in the sense that it motivates people only when they don't have other problems to occupy their mind. Jumping on that bandwagon just as it stops moving votes is peak consultant failure.

In the UK IIRC less than 1% of voters would be swayed on trans rhetoric either pro or anti I don't think they're keeping the fires of anti trans hatred stoked for political reasons I suspect for both US and UK "centrists" it's to avoid angering their creepy doners

Considering the British are leading the charge on the trans genocide, British public opinion on the subject is worthless to consider

They know they can't tell the candidates to stop doing it, so instead they tell everybody else to stop acting like it's a big deal. It's just their guilt and anxiety projected out, like always. "It's not the candidates fault they took this position, it's *your* fault for pointing out it's bad."
