Kazuo Ishiguro (石黒 一雄). A portrait I took this time last year. When asked by Vanity Fair about the film adaptation of Klara and the Sun he described his own book as “bleak.” For the film he wanted something different: He sought out Waititi’s “kind of wacky, bordering on surreal humour." 🧵 🎥 ✍️🌅

From the 8th-15th centuries, 600+ years, they dominated the study of math & astronomy. Arabic numerals. The decimal system. Algebra. The astrolabe. Trigonometry. Geometry. 60% of stars we can see with the naked eye have Arabic names. Neil DeGrasse Tyson praises them all the time. Rfk is an idiot.

If it’s mean, small-minded, an uninformed opinion based on dis-information… Don't Quote Post. Don’t Debate. Don’t Repost. Block and move on.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

It makes me think of other tonal blends I've enjoyed, like Taika Waititi's Boy. Which feels so genuine and lived-in, and then all the US press was like "it's a drama.... AND comedy???" Yeah, man, that's just life. Lol.

A boy ran rings around opponents, & his own teammates, in the late 1990s and no one called the police. I felt bad for my son, but also thought, “What a star!” as the boy finished each of his goals by reaching his arms forward, then up like, “Yay!” as he kept running. Hope he got to play when older!

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

If you voted for the current resident, just free yourself… Post and/or say, “I was lied to.” Now go vote for people who don’t see other human beings as inferior. Vote for people who are progressive, because it’s good for our future. Vote for people who want to serve others, not just themselves.

If you couldn’t make yourself #vote in Nov 2024, I’ve been disappointed with you. But I’m hoping you learned something. Voting matters. Should be mandatory. We need to vote to strengthen the checks on the current mess. Just remember this past & future advice: “Voting prevents unwanted presidencies”

Salutations Edward! Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to touch base. Firstly, hope you are well. Just checking in to see how you’re (sea)faring working from “home.” (See what I did there? LOL) Can I pick your brain? I’m circling back to something you said …

You will receive three free days at a deluxe resort in such places as Florida, Puerto Rico, Virginia, Cancun and more! All you have to do is attend a one hour, no pressure time share presentation….

An AI narrated audiobook will never reach the quality of a book narrated by the right voice talent. The AI can't read through a paragraph, see something that causes the reaction the author wanted, and react to it, it will just make a voice say the words.
