Gut punch of a story about an Amazon engineer who trusted ChatGPT-4o to manage and reduce her seizure med dosages. You'd hope someone who made it into a top engineering position would have known the limits of AI circa May 2024 www.nytimes.com/2026/10/27/w...

If you ever need to explain path dependence (or why you need to understand where a system has been to understand what is doing now or how to shift it) here's an illustration.

This owl was getting banded and tagged by the Rocky Point Bird Observatory. For the owl’s safety, he/she was wrapped up. These photos…🤣🦉. So cute.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

The Truths It's nice outside It's too warm for October It's out of my control We all have a part to play What if this straw chokes a turtle Greedy companies are responsible Got bit by a tick Insects are disappearing

The warming will continue, even if we stop emitting now It's not too late; every tenth of a degree matters The heat, the floods, the devastation—they're happening now There's still time to act We need to make change happen faster We need to remake society from the ground up

It's one crisis of many It's the defining crisis of our time I don't think I want to have a baby People have dealt with impossible challenges before I'm only one person Your voice is important

Added to "Things I Didn't Know I Should Be Worried About" file 😳

This week’s main story is about generic drugs, how and where they’re produced, what’s causing shortages to life-saving medications, and why Mr. Potato Head is the only one who should be losing any eyeballs over it.

"You'll see us grow to 20 gigawatts by 2030."⁣ ⁣ Voltus just raised $225M to pay factories, warehouses and big box stores to use less electricity. DOE says the country needs 80 GW of this by 2030. Dana Guernsey wants Voltus to be a quarter of it.⁣ ⁣ New episode of Energy Empire out now 🗽🔌

The Community Reinvestment Act is at risk of rollbacks that would dramatically weaken banks’ obligations to invest in working-class communities and help them recover from disasters. We can’t allow this to happen. Submit a comment now: https://on.nrdc.org/3WbqGU7

Today Permitting Reform advocates are all pivoting to the message that this bill will make tech companies bear the costs for data-center power use. But here's a fact: the lobbying group for Big Tech loves the bill and wants it to pass. Weird contradiction, no?

This is a bad bill—bad for environmental justice, bad for climate, bad for humans. Some good people are fighting for it b/c they don't believe we can get better, but straight up, it's a bad bill. Sometimes we have to fight like hell for better options; it's the only way we get them.

I was speaking to my wife about the death penalty in regards to several of the high profile sexual assault cases and she was shocked when I told her about the Innocence Project and the hundreds of death row inmates released because they were imprisoned wrongly. Most people don’t know these facts.

Reading the details of the US execution story from last night and it is absolute barbarism. Like reading a history of the medieval period.

You can see the genocide from space. Yet still it is widely denied.

Google is updating its satellite images of Gaza. The comprehensiveness of effort required to reduce an urban landscape to this is beyond imagining. Literal carpet bombing.

"Cornell has failed to protect its students. Cornell has failed to address the growing issue of sexual assault on campus with its pathetic task force. Cornell has failed the student allegedly raped by those seven men at Chi Phi in October 2024. Cornell has failed her. Cornell has failed us."

I think it’s fair to say that the student journalists at Cornell are braver than the news networks who just gave up on their WH pool ban even though CNN is still being denied access. www.cornellsun.com/article/2026...

New, from me: Once memory-holed, DOGE is now the subject of revisionism. To better understand why DOGE failed, I talked to people in the civic tech movement that DOGE displaced, who continue to offer the alternative model for how to modernize govt. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/doge-vs-ci...

Stop calling it a climate problem. Call it what it is: organized greed. The planet isn’t dying. It’s being killed for profit. The killers have names. And boardrooms. #ClimateJustice #StopEcocide

Still processing everything from Climate Week 😵‍💫 One takeaway: if you want people of color to come represent their communities and need their voices for your panel-event-discussion (and you do), make sure they’re cared for in all the ways. 5K for hotels w/ UN gen assembly happening is not enough

And while not a Climate Week event heard Gil Duran speak about the Peter Th!el to JD V@nce pipeline and the evaporation of democracy. He will be on the lookout for tech billionaires putting gobs of 💰 into the midterms to pit parties against each other
