"Let the Tyrants of Europe and the Orient tremble! For who long can stand against the Brotherhood of Man, united in fraternity under the gathering banners of the New World?" - President Benito Juárez, USE, April 14th, 1866, address to Congress upon the Declaration of the Second Great War

Unfortunately I called this during the election, without a serious public construction company (or several) they were never going to reach these targets. You need to be providing the supply, to ease the demand. You can’t just subsidize the existing industry and expect massively more building.

Jim Pickard@pickardje.bsky.social

Andy Burnham’s government has privately given up on reaching Labour’s target of building 1.5mn new homes by 2029, and ministers will refer to the goal less and less, according to government figures www.ft.com/content/285a...

This is fundamental, a public construction sector is additive to the existing private construction sector. They work in tandem to raise the overall output of the total construction sector. Likewise with renovations, sales and maintenance.

Another reason why states must recover wealth through taxation. It's not a moral question, it's a question of power. Poor states are weak. Weak states cannot function properly.

Transphobia was never about defending women, it was always about defending masculinity and controlling women.

We’ve never learned this lesson in the UK. We still have to listen to the ‘legitimate concerns’ of a bunch of racists and fascists.

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Ah yes. Democracies famously don’t allow their populations to influence or change any decisions made in the past.

The defense of democracy means a defense of the victims of tyranny from the highest halls to the lowest ranks. We stand together, or we are scattered. Victory comes with solidarity.

This is it: When fascism aims to go viral, do not allow them to cough into everyone's faces in the name of "free speech". Debate is an internal means of determining how to beat an enemy. On the plane of struggle against an external opposition, a movement does not aim to debate, but to defeat.

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

Because it really is the behavior of people who don't even perceive the *existence* of a movement, who treat politics like it's just their little personal little league game to win or lose. It's wrecker shit, fundamentally. Insecure, pathetic behavior.

The big lesson is to treat marketing and mass communications like marketing and mass communications, with its own rules, and logic. Instead of pretending it is a philosophy or debate club.
