Here with my little 3d printed 2d printer to speak in defense of 3d printing. AB 2047 would infringe on our right to privacy and free speech. It's theoretically about gun control, but ghost guns are already illegal and this bill wouldn't make us any safer.

Very concerned about our society. 56% of the population indifferent to dinosaurs??? Worrisome! And Allosaurus and Edmontosaurus fans are well less than 6% of the country??? Shocking! (Admittedly Edmontosaurus is the viola of dinosaurs, but you think sleek, chompy Allosaurus would get more love!)

A shocking new poll result: Many Americans somehow don't have a favorite dinosaur. And only 6% give the correct answer (triceratops). Check out YouGov's new polling on Americans and dinosaurs: yougovamerica.substack.com/p/whats-your...

Shower thought time. 🧵 The phrase "You shouldn't have." It can mean so many freaking things. 1. That action was harmful, don't do it again. 2. That action gave you very little gain for your exertion. 3. That thing you did was a conventionally thoughtful gesture.

6. I'm not saying to be cruelly blunt, mind you. Social convention and manners sure as hell have their place. I suppose, all in all, the moral of the story, is I'm a great personal shopper! 😉

Epilogue, Our Lady of Guadalupe made her way to a place of honor in family member's motorcycle shop, where she resides with a crew that could use a little extra prayer. In case anyone was worried.

4/? The point is, it's not even a language thing, because we have different words to clearly express all those concepts. It takes an absurd amount of brainpower to parse what people mean, because people aren't taught to say what they mean, or why they should in the first place.

5/? It's a tax on the neurospicy, when we could be using that brainpower on far more interesting things. Can't be good for neurotypical people either. If you repeatedly don't say what you mean, how on earth can you actually know what you mean?

3/? Or from my sister, 6. Look, I know I asked you to buy something memorable for me, but the rainbow neon and chrome 110v powered spinning disc featuring the icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a bit intense.

Whoo, I just tried that trick on dented wood where you dampen it, put a damp cotton rag on it, then iron it. The heated water in the wood expands and gets the dent out. It freaking worked. Witchcraft! (I only recommended if you don't care about the wood's finish.)

This is a scary good thread. I'm gonna hide under my bed now...

The Golden Gate Bridge. It was about here on my walk that I started laughing like a crazy person thinking about onshoring a factory in a hurry. I’ve helped build and ramp a line for heavy equipment. It takes years to get right. This is fucking madness by men who’ve never owned steel tipped boots

Gah. With these horrible tariffs, I might actually test the crafters principle of S.A.B.L.E (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy) Was hoping to keep that very theoretical. On a related note, just left some voicemails for my Senators. Gah.

I love baltic birch plywood, and that's Hakeem Jeffries favorite plywood too! Plywood lovers of the world, unite!

Easiest click farm bot and troll blocklist ever is to say something positive and include "Hakeem Jeffries". The bots scan for it and autoreply. It was hilarious when I put up a post about Hakeem Jeffries and deleted it for typos. Didn't have a chance to repost but the bots were triggered....

For anyone wondering, some possible dog names have survived from cuneiform sources. On tiny dog figurines found buried under a palace in Nineveh, Iraq are inscriptions that seem to be names. dan rigiššu “loud is his bark” munaššiku gārîšu “biter of his foe” mušēṣi lemnūti “expeller of evil”

Well, saw this critter this morning. He sat on the hill behind my house, outraging my dogs, for a good 15 minutes while I polished off breakfast and explained to the dogs why they couldn't go out and fight our visitor. I thought he was sick, but he then got up and trotted smoothly away.

I've been into paint by numbers for a while, though I'm slow at it. It's a good way to move my hands while turning my brain off. This one is from Winnie's Picks. Several of the paints were gummy or pale and needed to be doctored up with flow aid and a few drops from my Golden brand paint stash.

My followers consist of a handful of bots, a kind maker or two and perhaps an opossum who found a charged phone in a dumpster, but I'll keep you all updated on the pbn progress.

The canvas needed gessoing, the lines are a little wonky from the image being casually run through pbn software but all in all I'm happy with it. My father likes vintage bikes, the quality is okay-ish, and the company collaborates with artists rather than going the AI route which is huge.

Just had a sample of the Eaton Fire ash that is in my driveway run on the department XRF. Is there titanium (new house paint)? Yup. Lead (old house paint)? You betcha. Heavy metals? Check. Treat that ash like it's toxic folks (because it is)

The tldr is use an N95, gloves, long sleeves, good boots and a tetanus shot or booster. The ashes and wreckage from this tragedy (or any other urban fire) is nothing to fool with. Wishing everyone comfort and safety.

A good example of why we shouldn't always get what we want. I had the good fortune of meeting Terry Pratchett in 2005 for a very pleasant split second. I always dreamed of getting the dual signature and damn, am I glad I didn't.

So I don't have any deep conclusion. Only that I'm going to find and read Tanith Lee's Tales from the Flat Earth series, and Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower, each for slightly different reasons.

And that's my bone to pick. That S.O.B. understood goodness and still chose evil. Had he even a marginal level of ethics, he could have had his pick of willing lovers, and we'd all have praised him, or at absolute least, shrugged philosophically.

Sometimes a red flag is random. Before J.K. Rowling doubled down on her anti-trans stance, Daniel Hemmens wrote his excellent essay 'Harry Potter and the Doctrine of the Calvinists' pointing out that whether a character in the series is good or evil depends on their nature and not their actions.

There's that old stereotype about romance writers being sweet and frivolous, and horror writers being grim and twisted. While in reality, the number of cutthroat romance writers and marshmallow horror writers is... past statistical probability, to the point where it's pretty funny.

You are up to date.
