I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who spared a thought for my country today, who amplified information about the coup d’état attempt, and worried about Brazil’s democratic future—the world’s democratic future. We won! Women won! The Amazon won! Young people won! Democracy won! Hope won!

Traces of Texas reader Sal Vitone saw the circa 1890 photo of the 4th Denton County courthouse that I posted a couple of days ago and graciously sent in this glorious -- and I do mean glorious --- 1902 photo of the 5th Denton County courthouse. And what a grand building it is. It still stands.

USA V USSR Cold War has been ongoing since the 1940’s. Russia is the #1 enemy of USA, NATO, and of Western Democracy. Khrushchev’s “Active Measures”: Kompromat of “useful idiots/assets” like criminal pedophile Trump, and NAZI social indoctrination/disinformation tactics is how traitor pig Trump won.

The right is spending the day complaining that Abdul El-Sayed was "rude" and "a bully" to Tommy the Republican Operative at his town hall, which is hilarious given how they had nothing to say about a woman getting beaten up at a Trump rally as the president cheered on.

This doesn't make any sense, the crowd didn't drown him out by shouting USA! USA!, assault the guy or have him violently dragged from the building while insulting how he looks. Must be ai.

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

Ask any law student or recent law school graduate. We were all acutely aware that we were not yet lawyers just by virtue of having a degree. No one gets their diploma and says “I’m a lawyer now”. No one. You have to pass the bar. And then you have to be sworn in. Being sworn in is one of the most

This is a great, heartfelt post from a guy I truly admire. I think it speaks to what many of us are feeling.

I need to share something personal with you that I don’t talk about much: I often struggle with a feeling of helplessness. I look around and see so much that is plainly wrong. But over the long run, the truth has a way of winning. And telling the truth is more powerful than we think. (link below)

Tillis is a Trump enabler who is trying to cash in on a twinge of regret without acknowledging the role he played in getting us into the terrible mess we are in. It's like an unrepentant menace to society trying to bullshit his way past the parole board.

Jen Rubin@jenrubin.bsky.social

What does Tillis truly regret? And when did he develop pang of conscience? Tillis could've demanded officials’ removal, sought to hold them in contempt or voted vs. the Iran War (before he finally broke with Trump in September). Count me as unimpressed by anbelated political deathbed confession.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

This past weekend, senior LDS Church leader D. Todd Christofferson did something that has become surprisingly rare: He made an unapologetic moral argument against gambling. I wrote about the religious leaders pushing back against the sports-betting boom. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

An extremely important oped, as destroying separation of church and state is central to the Catholic Integralist believers on Supreme Court. Secular democracy is heresy. Note Leonard Leo and his Becket Fund NGO are primary in this SCOTUS erosion of democracy. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/30/o...
