I would definitely take a coffee to a job interview with Kai Ryssdal. And I don't even like coffee.

in 2017, a trans reporter was fired at @marketplace.org for writing a blog post abt the need for journalists to resist rising fascism, racism and transphobia. @kairyssdal.bsky.social, the host of the show, said nothing & let his colleague's career be murdered. judge his hr tips accordingingly.

Between 2021 and 2025, around 2 million cyclists passed the floating bus stops on Leith Street, Edinburgh, and around 5 million bus passengers boarded or alighted here. No injuries have been recorded. Over the same period, drivers injured around 600 Edinburgh pedestrians, killing 16.

Not the biggest Kate Nash fan but "Freedom of Me" is pushing the envelope. Flute melody, heavy bass line, rap/spoken word. Gives the sub a work out too.

No mention of public ownership of energy infrastructure or fossil fuel industry. No mention of reforming energy pricing so that cost of renewable electricity reflects cost of generation and transmission, rather than fossil fuel prices. And not a mention of not slashing heat pump subsidies.

What should the Chancellor do about the energy crisis at the Budget? Four things: 1. Further reduce electricity costs 2. Fix gas prices for several years 3. Promote short term energy efficiency 4. Lock in incentives to electrify We have a new Nesta blog covering this:

... determines what it can afford. N.B the Government is the body that adds money to the economy (public spending) and removes it from the economy (taxation). If the article made the case for more public expenditure to address the challenges we face, I would be more impressed.

I have to correct myself here. There is mention of not slashing heat pump subsidies, 3/4 of the way through the article. That doesn't really excuse it though. It is all couched in terms of what the Government can afford. Which ignores the fact that Government is ultimately the body that ...

All I want is for people to be able to live their lives peacefully, comfortably and within their means, without fear of being exploited in anyway. This is irrespective of gender, disability, neuro divergence and irrespective of where they came from. Why is this simple notion so damned radical?

Of course, this very notion means we can't afford billionaires, monopolies and neo liberalism. We should all be fine with that. People who aren't fine with that are the problem.

The bad news keeps flowing. So I will content myself with the fact my fancy (by my standards) DAC connects to my work Windows PC without a driver. Living for the small wins!

Yeah no violence at all. Road violence isn't violence, it's just road safety advocates overblowing things when cyclists don't take responsibility for their own actions. Imagine watching this and then saying "yeah it's not violence."

TW Last week our client was cycling in Hamilton. He passed James Newlands in his grey pickup truck. Words were exchanged, Newlands sped unsafely past our client then brake checked. Shocking video confirmed Mr. Newlands intentions & shed light on this terrible incident of road rage 1/3

Been listening to Bonobo's Distance in Static via the Gustard R26ii this morning (while working) and before that, assorted Reggae. The noise is blissful.

Abandoning the state pension triple lock is absolutely fucking heinous. Since 2011 the triple lock has cost £16 bn. Removing the extra tax relief on private pensions enjoyed by high earners would raise £15 bn. Removing the NI upper earnings limit? £12.5 bn. Labour still cruel under Burnham.

These things are filed in my head under “rank hypocrisy” — take, for instance, then MP Kate Hoey raging against “all cyclists run red lights” and who was later convicted of guess what in her car?

I see there's more Bad Cyclists Discourse again. It's actually a symptom of how broken the UK's road network planning is, but it's easier to complain about what just *nearly* happened to you than to pause for thought about the "why" it nearly happened. The actual real problem is political.

Slowing down well ahead of a red traffic signal, to reach it as it went green rather than driving towards it as fast as I possibly could in order to determine the full stopping power of my brakes and experience some negative G was enough to send a tailgating driver into a fit of rage.

Caught him just as he finished rolling a couple of joints or whatever the kids call them these days. Already stank of cannabis. Presumably he was going to drive home high. Please, I have had enough of sharing the planet with these people.

FWIW I am not bothered about people smoking weed. It is the driving off afterwards in a vehicle that is going to be unforgiving to any pedestrians or cyclists it collides with, and the rest of the arseholery that gets me.

Then there is the driver who parks in the same place every evening, at a side road junction blocking a dropped kerb. Often see takeaway trash left at that very spot. Caught the turd tonight. Smoking weed. Engine idling. Front fog lights on to blind us as we walked along the side road.

Which is why vested fossil fuel interests in the traditional media conflate e-bikes with e-motorbikes and exaggerate battery fire risks
