I think the overall tactical case here is reasonable and the game theory makes sense. I would still probably vote for Turek due to the senate's term lengths and antimajoritarianism, but also nobody voting in that race is on bluesky anyway

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

with that said, as I've pointed out before, "leave the ballot blank" is not a coherent position. if you buy Reed's arguments about the game theory here (which I think you probably should for the house races at least), you should vote republican! your protest vote will be twice as effective if you do

the fact that left wing defectors generally vote third party or not at all, whereas right wing defectors vote republican, is part of the reason why dems should (from a tactical perspective) see the latter group as more of a priority. unfortunately there is only one way to change that

This is how it works repeatedly with Trump — something pretty much everyone agrees is fucked up then Trump jumps in to side with the fucked up thing, and the result is not a story that's like "Trump sides with fucked up thing" but to change the fucked up thing to instead become "controversial"

CNN@cnn.com

President Donald Trump on Thursday encouraged Republican Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to keep running a controversial ad featuring his opponent Amy Acton's estranged mother. CNN's Kaitlan Collins reports. Read more: https://cnn.it/3UH9xBq

Always thought it was weird how they said this study was about people not wanting to be alone with their thoughts. If you tell me that there’s a button that will zap me, and I can push it if I want, I’m no longer having thoughts. I’m having thought.

A tit for tat cycle with every trifecta certainly isn’t ideal and we do no need to think about ways out of that. But at least that’s a Court where one party’s control isn’t perpetually self-entrenched until enough randomly timed convenient deaths short circuit the partisan timed retirement game.

i do unironically think people that are cosmopolitan need sorta paradoxically be more chauvinist about it tbh. places and people that are cosmopolitan in outlook are better than places that are provincially minded. the kind of performative handwringing about not being 'authentic' is bad and weak.

love it when anarchists say this because most "local community" councils irl in places like new england or small rural towns are typically deeply *right wing* and hate immigrants and queer people despite representing a "broad swathe" of the entire population. leftism is supposed to be COSMOPOLITAN.

Donald Trump had the exceptional timing to run TWICE as a challenger against non-incumbents trying to defend the incumbent party in power. Americans like "change" and when you don't have the power of incumbency it is REALLY hard to hold serve. Since 1900 has only happened twice, 1928 and 1988.

Over the last decade, there were two hypotheses: H1: the political right genuinely cared about threats to speech from the left. H2: they were using campus speech wars to impose their values and silence dissent. Today, the answer is clear, but I can't find any of the H1 people admitting their error.

After years of championing "free speech," Texas lawmakers have enabled a dramatic rise of censorship in Texas universities, banning concepts, canceling courses and closing departments seen as "woke," and even using AI bots as censors. All in the name of freedom. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

I'm looking at this speech now, and that is absolutely not the fucking hero of Greek myth. The hero of Greek myth is almost always a dramatically tragic figure who is undone by their own character flaws. In fact, that's basically every single Greek hero. What the fuck are you talking about man.

The fake debate was ‘are people blank slates?’ and the real debate was ‘i don’t want non-whites to go to college’, and the existence of unanswered questions in the fake debate doesn’t mean you have to pretend they’re asking them in good faith.

In general I think shirking is a hugely effective tool in the cops political arsenal and whole progressive elected officials have a workable toolkit for punishing affirmative abuses (abuse of force, etc), there’s less of one for negative abuses (refusing to do the legitimate parts of the job)

I’m pretty worried about ICE/CBP going blue-flu to ratfuck the next Dem administration tbh. I don’t really think there’s a good counter to them doing malicious compliance and stopping even normal enforcement, then going “sorry, we had to let that child predator go, due to woke” to sympathetic media

Chatham Harrison dba TRUMP DELENDUS EST@chathamharrison.bsky.social

We are at the peak of ICE's ability to organize support for its activities before Democrats start taking more power & disrupting their efforts. And even when we do places like Florida will double down on state support to help facilitate whatever Congress tries to prevent.

I think Honda pretty much solved this form factor with the Fit, which ~everyone who owned loved but which they stopped making for the American market because making them was the wrong business decision. it’s not just EVs is what I’m saying

What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

fwiw despite not really liking a lot of the choices in the ending I also still really enjoyed a recent rewatch of the show, which does strike me as strange given how much knowledge of the ending recontextualizes everything

wait it only has 95m views on YouTube? honestly that seems to me like evidence of how siloed it is; I feel like that's a very low number for how many radio/streaming views it has feels like the all time billboard record should have more views than the average Mr Beast video

There is no longer a common monoculture and songs can, in fact, go completely ignored even with 95 million views on YouTube That being said, after listening to it, I MAY have heard it before, but it is so utterly bland and disposable I may have forgotten. Someone is getting upset over this?
