This is humanity. This is what makes our species unique. We really shouldn’t give it up.

“Do you think HUMAN CREATIVITY matters? Most people don't spend a lot of time thinking about poetry until their father dies, you go to a funeral, you lose a child, somebody breaks your heart & that's when Art’s not a luxury it's sustenance.” — ETHAN HAWKE

A lot of people asking me how this isn't the New InfoWars and guess what maybe it is?

Restoring ecosystems doesn't only reverse nature loss, it's THE most powerful ally we could hope for against both climate collapse itself, and its consequences. As a further plus, it makes life SO much more beautiful!! Rewilding should be a global priority 🌍

[Commentary] Is it possible to "grow" fire insurance? In Spain and South Africa, restoring degraded ecosystems is turning landscapes from fire hazards into natural buffers, protecting biodiversity and communities against catastrophic wildfire risks. By Claire Patterson and Penelope Choussat.

I do not want to download your app. I just want lunch. I do not want to create an account. I just want lunch. I do not want to setup 2FA. I just want lunch. I do not want to 'earn points'. I just want lunch. I do not want to add to my order. I just want lunch. I JUST WANT LUNCH!

I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.

🔮🌙 John Dee - mathematician, occultist and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I - was born on this day in 1527. Often remembered as the Queen’s “magician”, Dee was one of the most fascinating figures of the Elizabethan world, with a scholarly interest in astronomy, mathematics, astrology and the occult.

@jasonsheridan.bsky.social thanks for the Mister Rogers Trolley Ride ep (nice to reminisce about the uncanniness of the puppets made even more unsettling by this ride). That said, deeply troubled by the pod’s discussion of the dangerous clackmaxxing trend!

As it gets harder and harder for people to resist using AI, we need new awards that recognise and celebrate the very worst of human-made writing, saluting people who didn’t know wtf they were doing but had the courage and resilience to press ahead and write without running anything through an LLM

Books should take forever to write. They should torture you your entire life and the things you could have said slightly better should haunt you forever. This is what art is for, transferring the discomfort of being human into something relatable to the other humans

We’re not just losing trees. We’re losing living history. Ancient forests that stood as silent witnesses to centuries of life — absorbing our carbon, sheltering species, and holding the memory of the Earth itself — are vanishing before our eyes. It’s on us to protect what still remains

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

Spending too much time online will have catastrophic effects on your mental & emotional health. You need to be taking walks and talking to other people. You need to feel grass under your feet and wind on your face. You were made to live an embodied life.

In 2016, Ghislaine Maxwell falsely stated, under oath, that she was not aware that Jeffrey Epstein recruited underage girls for sex (you know, the ones she was actually recruiting on his behalf). She was charged with two counts of perjury for this. Remind me why we give a shit what she says now?

You may not feel it, but the ground beneath you may be sinking. In fact, the surface of California’s Central Valley is nearly 30 vertical feet lower than it was a century ago. Why is this happening? Because our planet is rapidly drying. THREAD/

“Just calm down and let people enjoy chatgpt.” Sorry, no. I find it creepy that folks are treating a machine that mimics human speech as their friend / therapist. It is feeding you lies. It is destroying your thinking abilities. Shut it off. Talk to other humans. Go outside.

"AI" has nothing todo with intelligence, it's just statistics. And as Kurt Gödel already found out in 1931, with his incompleteness theorem, computers will never be able to be really intelligent, which required being conscious. "They lost the plot". They only smelled the profit.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Me being a broken record on this: Don't trust consumer-facing "AI" for anything.

If there were neither rule of law nor an elected government, billionaires like Elon Musk would BE our government. Our rights and freedoms will only last so long as we common people are able to pool our wealth and voices into an organization (e.g., a state) powerful enough to keep oligarchs in line.
