In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

In med school one of our ethics scenarios was a parent bringing a teen girl in for a hymen check to ensure virginity. The student is meant to understand that this is a violation of the patient's bodily autonomy and privacy. This is no different. Another culturally mediated excuse to violate girls.

Doctors and nurses are voicing their objections. I-638 would require EVERY girl who wants to participate in sports to go through biological sex verification. That means expensive, invasive, and utterly gross examinations. Protect our kids and let them play. Vote NO on I-638

This is a fun experiment. Rotating the context through different models and asking it to figure out what is going on.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Reminder: people who tell you this is fundamentally unsafe do not know anything about distillation and are still unaware that the deaths from "moonshine" during Prohibition was the result of the federal government intentionally poisoning people (listen to SNAFU season 3)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court agrees to review Reconstruction-era ban on distilling spirits in private homes.

anthropic cares about safety as long as it is purely hypothetical safety that does not meaningfully impede their operations or profitability. they got into an argument with the government about a hypothetical one time but there is no evidence this has any practical impact

guys that cloudflare chart is about automated content crawling not social media bots, Yandex is an indexing site, when one of its DCs go down they do less crawling of the web. please learn to read.

everyone is making pretty bold anecdotal claims about the Yandex DC going out resulting in less right wing content, but all the actual data I’ve seen has been saying it hasn’t moved the needle at all. I would be very skeptical of these claims; they will almost certainly turn out to be totally false.

she said "you can do anything in fiction as long as the situation afterwards is more interesting that the situation before." since then i have been keeping an eye on character death in fiction. many writers seem to think that character death "raises the stakes" but actually just makes things boring

In 2012, I stood on a stage with Anne Carson as a volunteer grad student to help her perform BRACKO, an adaptation of Sappho, where my job was to say the word "bracket" every time there was a bracket, which was more than two hundred times

Dear Mainers, I'm reposting this as the election nears. #SusanCollins #Maine

Senator Susan Collins killed the amendment to protect the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) -- perhaps the world's premier research center for work on #weather, #climate, models, and remote sensing. Remember that.

Sam Altman is five feet tall so what’s interesting here is that the implied viewer is crouched behind him at the edge of the cliff

had to google this one up so his company's name is not a LOTR reference, it is a Russian bootleg novel reference where Sauron is the good guy web-wp.archive.org/web/20150910...

Sasho Todorov@sashotodorov.bsky.social

For context: Palantir isn't named that because he's a Tolkien fan. It's because he's a fan of the uber-reddit Russian fanfic "The Last Ringbearer" which recast Sauron as a progressive industrializing force.
