A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The problem with this is you could read it to mean either Bill Clinton or Donald Trump.

I get they're inextricably intertwined but I kind of feel like leaning so much into how he was the longtime best buddy of the world's most notorious sex criminal has given it something of the feel of a political gotcha rather than the important part, which is that the president raped people.

Immigration is a net positive for any economy and we need to make it easier and welcome the influx, and be glad that people want to come here and pick vegetables and clean toilets and stuff, just so their kids have a shot at a better life than they have had.

Countries that guarantee healthcare for all residents, regardless of how they do it (single payer, regulated insurance market, national health systems, etc) pay, on average, about half of our lifetime per capita health expenditures, with demonstrably better long-term outcomes. Let's do that.

It's funny because I sound like a raging leftist when, in reality, I'm a white dude in late middle age who sent his kids to private school, served in the military, pays lots of taxes, has no use for public sector unions, etc etc. But I'm also capable of understanding basic statistics.

I mean, let's be honest. Bill is not a decent human. Nominating him to escape 12 years of Reaganomics was a Hail Mary pass, and it worked, sorta, but it got us decades of Democrats being Republicans, but cool with abortion rights.

I guess Barack Obama gave good speeches and didn't cheat on his wife but he's a war criminal and the ACA was a stupid, stupid idea that predictably devolved into the mess we have now.

The Trump administration has brought a third criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey, this time accusing the longtime target of President Donald Trump of unlawfully transmitting national defense information to the press a decade ago. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The most frustrating, stupid thing about this very frustrating and stupid situation we're in, is that none of it had to happen. Nor would it have, if we hadn't elected stupid people.

There is so obviously a million ways to use a star soccer player in your league to help all the kids improve their game. If you can't find one maybe it's because there's a giant racism bag over your head that's turning your brain into oatmeal.

100 years from now someone will write a book about how we mowed down forests for datacenters while the world was burning. It won't be complementary.

It's called a query parameter, see? If you put it in the link from the email, you don't need to pop up a modal display on the website asking the user for their email address, which you already have, or they wouldn't have clicked the link in the email. #peeves

Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵

When I worked in the Hancock building in Chicago there was a cheesecake factory on the ground floor and we used to order takeout from there. The mushroom pasta was solid. That’s all I got.

I would say that, arguably, damn near every ICE kidnapping is over a "paperwork issue."

“Toxic Empathy” author Allie Beth Stuckey is now asking for folks to understand that ICE has separated a good man from his family over a paperwork issue.

People getting arrested for not filing paperwork, people getting arrested FOR filing paperwork, people getting arrested because they made mistakes on their paperwork, people getting arrested while filing paperwork, people getting arrested in spite of having filed paperwork, people getting arrested d

Good Mexican food everywhere. I moved from Lubbock TX to Princeton NJ in 1976. I had just turned 7. I cried because there was no Mexican food. I can get a tamale in Central Falls, RI, now.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Man, fuckin’ French fries. Every restaurant used to have limp frozen fries and now you find really good fresh cut crispy fries everywhere.

This is 🎯🧪 From a pancreatic cancer researcher in my circle Lately, we have been seeing so many miracles in cancer treatment. We celebrate. That is because we had a great infrastructure that operated efficiently. I don’t want to live in a time when these wins are far off in the rear view mirror.

Did he think this was a private message or something?

Idk man, maybe you could just try asking a woman how her day went, telling her you like her shoes, that sort of thing.

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”
