Barn door / Horse But more important: why now and why "for the rest of the year". Are they saying this has been an ongoing problem, including this year, and if so is there some change that will make them ok after this year?

So I see three possibilities: 1. He was trying to say something about what might happen if Iran had a bomb, and his word salad came out as gibberish 2. The FBI told him about a possible plot of some sort (not necessarily nuclear) on LA/SD and in his standard confusion it got mixed into his speech

I actually think #1 is the most likely, but it does leave the question of what trigger caused him to mix LA/SD into the word salad.

Monthly payment for the plan I have dropped. But copays jumped a LOT. Thus screwing people who actually need the drugs. Apparently Dr Oz's misunderstanding of the concept of insurance runs deep.

someone could do a “after moulton rebuke, centrists face growing pressure to retreat from extreme right-wing positions on gender conformity” number that would be fun

the fact that john ossoff can kick off a two-day media cycle by saying that the president is uninterested in doing his job and is sleeping through meetings and traveling around with a young blonde, suggests that not enough of these guys are speaking plainly and effectively about these assholes

LLM generated :-) Prompt: write a note describing the reasons why an LLM is not reliable as an "AI writing detector", and why LLMs should not be used for decision making in general. Be sure to use the word "quiet" or "quietly"

Finally something “Ai” definitely good at

So, what happens if I'm a parent and I know that my kid needs highly paid teachers, a library full of books with diverse characters, trans-inclusive bathrooms and extracurriculars, and a curriculum unpacking topics like systemic racism, colonial oppression, economic inequality, and climate change?

One thing not mentioned in that article is that repealing the whole thing would also repeal the massive ramp up in ICE funding. Which would save money and lives.

The legacy media sat there while Trump lied about the past elections and "joked" about running again in 2028. They did not boo. They did not walk out. They just sat there and ate their dinner. The journalists in that room will be remembered as the journalists in that room.

The fact that VP JD Vance and Richard Grenell went to Romania—on behalf of the Trump Administration— to advocate for Andrew and Tristan Tate, who by all accounts, were rapists running a coercive sex ring, then permitted them to come to Florida, should be a crazy, crazy scandal.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

It is going to be hella ironic if someone manages to launch a serious investigation of voting machines and uncovers proof of vote manipulation in KY, TX etc.

1/ Israel has effectively reclassified crocodiles as livestock to facilitate a plan to dig moats filled with crocodiles around prisons housing Palestinian detainees. It's a pet project of the far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir. ⬇️

The only other time the Shiller CAPE ratio was this high was the 1999-2000 dot com bubble. If you look at the S&P 500 level at that time and then its level 18 years later, the annualized return was 2.7%. $1,000 would grow to $1,604 in 18 years. With inflation this would buy less college credits.

Cory Doctorow describes what has been my thesis about “AI” coding: it’s great for small productivity projects, it’s a source of crippling tech debt for production code and libraries.

One thing I've learned about paradoxes: often the answer to the riddle of "how can this one thing have such a contradictory set of features and effects?" is "it's not one thing, it's *two* things*." 1/

See my other thread about recent Patreon issues. I don't have evidence, but I increasingly suspect that this is a canary-in-the-coal-mine case of a company using "AI" coding in their production system, and then being unable to find and fix the issues it introduced

Hey @jackconte.bsky.social WTF is going on with Patreon? Ever since February a couple dozen of my memberships have been failing payment - the payments do not occur automatically and time out if I try pay by hand.

The distinction maps roughly to "throwaway vs. maintained" code. The debt compounds specifically when LLM-generated code lacks tests and the original author no longer understands it well enough to review PRs—that's the real failure mode, not the generation itself.

Patreon support sends me responses like this, but nothing gets fixed so I'm skeptical that anyone is really working on it. It should not take months to track down a problem like this.

Patreon is losing money. The creators I'm trying to support are losing money. I'm losing out on seeing their posts but that's the least of the issues - I've totally lost faith in Patreon as a platform and am beginning to recommend that people not set up accounts there.

How can you consider Patreon a viable platform if you can allow a problem as serious as this to exist for so long, without making any sort of serious effort to fix it? I'm sure I can't be the only customer affected by this bug.

Patreon support admits the problem is at Patreon, it has (supposedly) been escalated to "Payments". But nothing ever changes and it continues to be broken.
