Gonna have to level with you, I'm not a real architect. I just showed up in this turtleneck and, well, everything spiralled from there.

Again, there are only so many times a political party can tell its core electorate and its core activist base to fuck off before they will, in fact, fuck off.

"Everyone I know, when they heard the details of what I'm accused of, thought "Yeah, that basically tracks with what I know of him"" is an, er, audacious defence strategy when accused of very serious sexual offences by multiple alleged victims. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live...

I think “exposing one of the most prominent, secretive and famously criminal men in politics as a secret partner for foreign intelligence agents and notorious sex offenders” should be viewed as an entirely different profession from “destroying the lives of black academics, apparently just for fun”.

Dara O'Reilly reposted

Just so we're clear here: Possible plagiarism by a black academic requires constant wall to wall coverage until the subject kills himself, and this is good and award-worthy. Right wing advisers to the Conservative party meeting with the UVF to talk about contract killings goes in the memory hole.

I see the period of reflection in the UK media following their hounding of Jason Arday to his death with unsubstantiated allegations has reached the "giving each other awards for hounding Jason Arday to his death with unsubstantiated allegations" stage.

Literally every liberal on here who wanks on about the lesser of two evils needs to repeat this like a mantra until they get it.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

It is, ultimately, damaging your ability to accomplish things long term or to win elections long term because you assume that you can't change the framing of the conversation even though changing the framing is a tool that's right there for you to grasp. It's incompetence. Malpractice.

"The person demanding that a political project offers them something they want in exchange for their support" - entitled. "The person demanding unquestioning support for their political project in exchange for nothing" - not entitled. Up is down, left is right, words mean nothing.

This is a reasonable point, to an extent: not all Israel partisans are necessarily slavering for the destruction and/or expulsion of millions of civilians, it’s not fair to assume Danny himself is. Nonetheless, that is what the project is, and clearly has been for decades.

All the available evidence suggests that Ian would resist, with every fibre of his being, a British politician with similar politics to Lula. He's literally doing it now.

Even ignoring entirely how condescending and cloth-eared this is, have marginalised people generally achieved progress by a) being an uncomplaining and reliable part of an uncaring electoral coalition that can take them for granted, or b) by doing literally anything other than that?

Josh Hartke@joshhartke.bsky.social

I dunno. Maybe help Democrats and be a part of the coalition you want to give you everything tomorrow.

The absolute fury from supporters of ostensibly progressive parties at the very idea that they should have to do something to earn minorities' votes is, gosh, in some way significant, I imagine.

Every time Toby Young shows up as a judge on a cooking show it's a jump scare. Just mind-boggling that he's been repeatedly platformed as if he's just some random guy and not one of the most aggressively vocal bigots in the UK (which is saying something)

It is absolutely possible that a well-meaning, kind parent could become estranged from their child, leading to the child going no-contact despite the parent's best efforts at reconciliation. I refuse, however, to believe that it's as wide-ranging a phenomenon as these articles suggest.

Michael Hobbes@michaelhobbes.bsky.social

Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...

Also, since this does appear to be happening disproportionately to newspaper columnists, a class of people who could be said to be prone to hyperbole, over-high regard for the merit of their beliefs, and, you know, cruelty, well...

NGL, following the inevitable societal collapse, I'll probably regret my lifetime Pina Colada Tier Amol Rajan membership. How many meet-and-greets is he even going to be doing in the radiation-soaked Badlands?

Andy Burnham is urging us to stock up on essentials such as tinned food, water, toilet paper and Amol Rajan Connection live tour tickets.

"Violence in Britain only comes from the left" is a startling assertion from an organisation whose CEO, (who might even be the person posting this tweet, as he has access to the account,) was recently recorded on camera facilitating an introduction to a contract killer.

I'm not American, and my opinion is worthless on this, but if you're bumping into Thomas Jefferson or Ben Franklin in the afterlife, you're in the same place as them, and you have rather more to worry about than whether you've let THEM down.

If you think the Reform Party is a more welcoming environment for you specifically than the Green Party, that might actually be a confession rather than an accusation...

TezMondTuTu@tezmondtutu.bsky.social

You have inadvertently proved my original point. The Green Party now looks like Restore on the left. I reckon I’d find more inclusivity at a Reform Christmas do. Any hoo I’m going to get back to reading my centrist press releases and being a Dad. Good luck in the next GE guys.

Looking at President Trump's physical capacity, and the robustness of the current White House Press Corps, I think there's more risk of a swimming pool posing tough questions to his presidency than the room's current purpose.

Disappointing that he doesn't offer a discounted family membership. We're all Amol superfans, and £4995, even as a one-off payment giving us a lifetime of access, is just too much for us. We've got holidays, Uni fees etc, and I think we'll eventually have to take the wee one to Turkey for hairplugs.

Amol Rajan’s membership tiers…that is scandalous.

I mean, not until he's at least thirteen, so we've a couple of years we can save for that. But I still think Amol needs to sweeten the offer for the committed Rajan boosters.

I disavow everyone. Let's work backwards from there. Brotherhoods I avow will be released at a later date. Sisterhoods I avow include the Dixie Chicks, Pointer Sisters, and some Spice Girls.

If only any other country in the world produced wine, those poor Canadians would be able to drink it, and the Canadian government would be able to collect the tax revenue. But, as we all know to our detriment, America is the foremost and only wine-producer in the world.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

Without American wine on Canadian shelves, Canadians are also missing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue they would obtain from selling our wine.
