Did no one ever actually enjoy writing code? Everyone seems so excited that we don't have to do this any more, and I find it weird, because wasn't that part of the fun?

This is a generalisation, however, the data industry is an embarrassment. The willingness we have displayed to relinquish our knowledge, skills, and critical thinking is worrying at best, but closer to truly pathetic. I'm struggling to comprehend how bad it has become in such a short space of time.

Not enough people are talking about the rise of shit cartoons posted on social media. People who overuse AI are seemingly deeply unfunny.

Fully grown adults not understanding the difference between Socialism and National Socialism is actually shocking, given that they could overcome their ignorance within five minutes through a search and some reading.

The smoothed-brain bosses at newsrooms continue to make the dumbest calls by killing off some of the best talents they possess. Axios are the latest. Sad for all those in the team affected, hopefully they are snapped up by better employers very soon.

Some sad news: Axios has eliminated their #dataviz team, which means I have a few former colleagues who are going to be looking for work. @daniellealberti.bsky.social was one of the best managers I’ve ever had and her eye for hiring the right people to round out a team is second to none.

I'm so sick and tired of seeing YouTube thumbnails with exaggerated facial expressions and hand gestures. You're talking about tech, I KNOW you're not literally jaw-dropping over a new toggle button or whatever. Yeah, algorithms and clicks, I know. I'm just too old for this shit 😑

Did the person who built the Fabric Capacity Metrics report actively hate data visualisation, and was the result an intentional hate crime against people who care about user friendly report design?

Choosing something to watch with your sigot is a hilarious experience. 'I want to watch a comedy.' No No No No Not that No No No *Hands the remote over* 2 minutes later we're watching the popular comedy 12 Monkeys.

📊 My and @jhilden.bsky.social’s book has been out of print for some time, as our publisher closed down its general publishing arm. We are working on a 2nd edition, but it is not going to be ready anytime soon, so we’re making the current edition available as an e-book for €9.90. payhip.com/b/zbl43

I don't like to speak on behalf of other people, but I really do feel that as close as possible to 100% of the population of this planet do not give a fuck about the Reflecting Pool.

Apparently you can now watch 'Banana ball' live on Disney+. I wont stay up for World Cup matches, but you can guarantee I'll be staying up to find out what the hell this is!

I'm genuinely tempted to do this.

I might start doing 'how to create fabric apps' videos. It's just me writing a prompt then clicking allow 10 times.

Posting a ridiculously elaborate Fabric App is the new 'sharing your first Power BI report which consists of a bar chart, column chart a pie chart and a Treemap'.

Enjoying a gentle paddle in the Finowkanal. I had a great time taking a friend out for his first time kayaking. Slowest paddle of my life, but a great day chatting on the water.

Honestly incredible stuff but this made me gasp: "For $100 million a year we can get clean oceans,” he said. This is less than the annual marketing budget of most major consumer goods companies that produce the plastic The Ocean Cleanup is pulling from the sea. techfixated.com/young-invent...

techfixated.comYoung inventor who left engineering studies removes nearly 50 million kilograms of ocean plastic, aims to eliminate 90% of floating waste by 2040'There was a time when the oceans were filled with plastic, and then we solved it':

Is it just me or are people overlooking another negative aspect of the AI boom, and that is the number of excellent and highly knowledgeable people that leave the industry because they just can't be arsed with all the BS?

It's almost as if shoving your product down people's throats makes those people hate and reject your product.

A German court has ruled that it is legal to state that the man who runs the Müller (Rice) empire is a supporter of the far-right AfD. Müller repeatedly denied it, which says everything about how bad he knew that association could be for his business. I hope the boycotts intensify.

There have been very few good days over the past month, but today was a good day. My wife was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of February, and since then I've been sitting at her bedside in the hospital.

A long surgery was successful in removing the tumour, and now she can finally eat and talk again. Radiotherapy and possibly chemo will follow, but today I'm focusing on the good day.
