BioWare made worlds and characters people loved. I don't mean that lightly, we *loved* these characters and these worlds. EA Sports will never make anything anybody loves. Their AI slop cannot make anything anybody loves. Enjoy the ashes, you absolute ghouls.

At long last, we have created a way for you to take away Nikki's free will, from the classic horror movie "don't take away Nikki's free will"

Dropped my ballot today. I know nine questions feels like a marathon (Progressive Mass has a good guide) Vote NO on 3.

Massachusetts! Question 3 is a trick. Vote NO on 3!!

FYI for my Massachusetts people: This is the way to vote on all of our (sometimes intentionally confusing) ballot measures this year. I'm also a No on 6, since I suspect it will get in the way of raising new revenues for environmental protection, rather than boost that protection sustainably.

Early voting starts today in Massachusetts! Do you have a plan to vote?

With as little hyperbole as possible, this man is a serial killer. His design, as Will Graham would put it, is to use policy and public health to kill people and cause as much harm and suffering as possible.

My blinds go up in the morning and down at night, I have buttons for the smart lights because I don't want to speak to my lights. They dim when I start a TV show or movie, or get bright when I start a workout. None of it requires my interaction, and this is how I like it.

@jasperfforde.bsky.social I completely missed your event at the Harvard Bookstore last night, but I managed to get a signed copy from them today. I’ve been delightedly reading these since Lost in a Good Book was published and I can’t wait to get home to start this one!

Francis says Rahm Emanuel can fuck right off with his centrist bullshit.

Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel calls on Democratic lawmakers to set aside plans to impeach President Trump if they win a majority in the House, pushing them instead to pass an ethics reform package.

This makes me wonder what the tech bro thinks a shelf full of books is. Do they think it’s a trophy cabinet? Do they not look at those books and remember the worlds they explored? When their friends (if they have friends) come over do they not share their experiences reading them?

Elsa@erli.bsky.social

I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart

It seems very silly, but I learned about Japanese internment by watching the film “Snow Falling on Cedars” when I was too old to be learning about this disgusting stain on our history for the first time. We are no better today than we were then, except now we don’t even let them play baseball.

This is a CEO thinking that the kind of experiences they have, that are *totally divorced from normal human experience* because they are weird tech CEOs, are normal and/or desirable. I have to know what my address and phone number are, Jensen, I don't have "people for that" you absolute weirdo.

It's notable here that Centrist Miniboss Ezra Klein is even taken aback by this. He doesn't, you know, push back very hard, but nobody ever accused him of having a spine.

God, grant me the courage to change the things I can and incredible new powers to change the things I can't.

This makes me sad. It is a miracle we got six total seasons of a Daredevil TV show, but they could have done more and they are cowards for not doing more. They could have relaunched the street level characters with this show, built out Luke, Danny, Misty, Colleen... But no, we can't have nice things

I just finished Alex Ross' Marvel Dimensions, and while I was gobsmacked and delighted to see my favorite Watcher appear, I'm left wondering what Ross is saying with this book?

People who think Frank Castle and Rorschach are heroes, or have entirely different ideas about what Luke throwing away his lightsaber meant. Here we have the might makes right version of Captain America, but there are some readers who think that's the normal Captain America.

Maybe I'm way off here, maybe Ross was just playing with an idea that's been explored in recent comics history with the Absolute and Ultimate lines.

To me it seems in direct conversation with folks who misinterpret these stories about power and responsibility and what they teach us, and how our current cultural landscape suggests lots of people took entirely different messages from these stories than I did.

The evidence continues to be overwhelming that we have been living in two completely separate, but entirely overlapping realities for the past 80 years.

Oh my god @kirkhamilton.com and Sam Parrish are doing a podcast about one of my favorite book series, The Vorkosigan Saga, by Lois McMaster Bujold. They're doing SEVENTEEN episodes on this series, which I've been reading since I was a teenager. I love them so much, and you will too!

I'm so excited to announce 'Definitely Fiction,' a new podcast about books! I'm making the show with my good friend Sam Parrish, and we're kicking it off with a series on The Vorkosigan Saga, a fantastic collection of Sci-Fi novels by the great Lois McMaster Bujold. More here:
