Come on now. We've all known since 2015 that the brain is a control panel managed by a lovable gang of personified emotions.

Russ Poldrack@russpoldrack.org

I just came across this paper by Cesario et al. that has one of the greatest titles ever: " journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Our scale search machine got a major update! Now with 31% more scales, 21% more items, 58% more coverage of measures by use, and 100% more goth!

Björn E. Hommel@bjoernhommel.bsky.social

After 12,000+ user interactions, we're releasing the first major update of Synthometricon (formerly SynthNet, with @anniria.bsky.social and @ruben.the100.ci ) 🧵 Try it here search.synth-science.org

Instead of pouring all their resources into new features no one asked for (e.g., AI summaries that steal web traffic from the source info) maybe Google could focus on fixing features that people constantly use (e.g., stop the Google Scholar citation button from dropping ending page numbers)?

Funny consequence of having academic papers on romantic compatibility: I keep a folder for cold emails I get from self-identified founders in the Bay area wanting to make dating apps and asking me to "hop on a quick call". I'm averaging about one such email per week.

I have a piece in today's @bangordailynews.bsky.social where I argue that we need to defend the broader goals of higher ed: developing engaged and worldly citizens who know how to think critically and are prepared for democratic self-government. www.bangordailynews.com/2026/09/24/o...

bangordailynews.comOpinion: Higher education is about much more than career preparation“Post-secondary education has always been about creating an educated citizenry to benefit individuals and the nation as a whole.”

The university press's job is to get the university in the press. As a researcher, your job is to push back, push back, push back on anything they write about your work that isn't completely scientifically accurate.

This post is unavailable.

This thread reminds me of the time my university press office set me up to do an AMA on reddit, and instead of calling my analysis technique "machine learning" (which is basically just regression with extra fancy steps), they called it "AI". No way to edit the title 😬

When we talk about how science is broken, maybe at least consider how a huge collaboration measured the ripples in spacetime resulting the collision of two black holes 1.3 billion light years away, as counterweight the guy who had to fake his data to show that people who procrastinate fall behind.

This matches my pet theory that people mostly answer questionnaires based on vibes, and so certain specific aspects about the phrasing matter very little.

Kristin Jankowsky@krijanko.bsky.social

When you answer "I often don't know who I really am" – which time frame are you thinking of? PD diagnoses require symptoms lasting 2+ years, but common questionnaires specify no time frame at all. We tested whether that matters: 🧵 osf.io/zdbmc with @jzpsych.bsky.social and @uschroeders.bsky.social

As someone who had the misfortune of reading this McMaster review article during my comps (which focused on, among other things, top surgery & multi-level meta-analysis), here are responses from plastic surgeons discrediting the McMaster review article:

New Investigation Out: New evidence in our long-standing investigation into McMaster University in Canada and SEGM, a US-based pseudoscience research group branded a "hate group" by SPLC reveals just how much control SEGM had over anti-trans research performed by McMaster faculty.

Huge congratulations to Emily and Dave for launching their aggression measures repository! AggreScale!! 🥳

David Chester@davidchester.bsky.social

AggreScale, part of the ManyScale project of @datingdecisions.bsky.social, is now live! It's the place to go for aggression scales and we hope to update it and grow it in the days to come. Huge thanks to Emily Pappalardo and James Marchment! www.manyscale.org/aggression/

A brave and tough call to make. It's hard to overstate how influential OSF has been on science in the past ~15 years. It's been such a staple that you'd almost forget how much cost, time, and effort it must be to keep going. Kudos to the OSF team for everything they've done.

Brian Nosek@briannosek.bsky.social

Over the next several months, we will phase out some popular OSF features. These changes do not affect current public content, which remains safe and accessible. We have prepared support material to help users adapt. I am very sorry for the disruption to your work. Please read this post for details.

Since I don't really study relationship decisions anymore (and haven't for some time), I thought it was time for a proper rebrand. New logo compliments of James Marchment! Cool thing about academia: if you get tired of studying something you can just... study something else instead.

Apropos of nothing, anyone interested in joining a "software* in social/personality psychology"-themed SPSP submission? *could be R/python packages, dashboards, web-based or mobile apps, etc.,

Social/Personality Psych people: what are some of your favourite research software products/papers that have come out in the last ~5 years?

Samantha Joel reposted

#psych content journals need sections for pure methods papers. Methods papers are put in methods journals read by methods people. But non-methods folk don't read those journals, so they miss the methodological insights/updates. Where are the content journals that eagerly publish methods papers?

Within the next year, we'll be looking for folks to help expand this website into "ManyScale". We want to help you use this code to make your own repository for your subfield. SelfScale, EmotoScale, PoliticoScale, etc. If that sounds exciting to you, please reach out!
