I don't know the ins and outs of this dispute, who's right, who's wrong, where the middle ground is etc. But this is inflammatory and unlikely to lead to any constructive dialogue. www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/co...
www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026... Pat Leahy states that the average salary of a secondary teacher in Ireland is €86,000. The highest point of the post 2011 scale is €86,265 (which, incidentally, none of the teachers on that scale will reach until c.2035). So how did he calculate this average?
So again, I ask, how did Pat Leahy calculate these averages? He is right about one thing, lower paid workers, particularly those in the east, need more support. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...

www.reddit.com/r/carsirelan... What's striking about this scene, is not just the beautiful Ferrari, but the grayscale tones of everything else. We need to splash a bit more colour about the place.

The rules allowed the killing of 20 civilians along with each person targeted. "The only limiting factor was the amount of bombs." (That the Israeli army had at its disposal at the time.) www.theguardian.com/film/video/2...

"As such, the Trump administration’s Western civilizational discourse should be seen as the flip side of its 'anti-woke' domestic agenda: the outwardly directed backlash to the intellectual and social mobilizations that culminated in the BLM protests of 2020." Here it is. Gift link.
I just worked up a piece about the geopolitical inconsistencies that make this call for a Western civilizational crusade self-defeating. But there are glaring inconsistencies between the civilizational pillar and the nationalist pillar he also celebrates, esp given Trump II's treatment of Europe.

There's a Wikipedia article about Israel's ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. Its opening paragraphs are written in a jarring but unflinching matter-of-fact style. Every American, German, and Israeli needs to read what the rest of the world knows. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_ge...
There was a time that a sentence like this would at least get scare quotes, but this is the normal we live in now - pure nonsense accepted with little or no comment. www.bbc.com/sport/formul...

This interviewing style should be met Christopher Hitchens-style with the interviewee asking "Did you invite me on to give my views, or to listen to yours?"
Absolutely fascinating to see Laura Kuenssberg interviewing Burnham, flailing to adjust her stance to a politician with a moral argument and a positive message, who stands up for his policies and answers her questions clearly. She is getting so agitated at him not playing the game by the 'rules'.
Open AI again trying to suggest that its software has agency, thereby attempting to remove liability from itself. That's why these things are called 'agents' afterall.
Breaking News: OpenAI’s technology went rogue and meddled with three U.S. government websites this summer without the A.I. lab’s knowledge. nyti.ms/4y5MY7n

Listening to Roger Deakins on Desert Island Discs. Lauren Laverne persists in asking sad questions about his parents while not taking repeated hints that he'd actually love to just talk about fishing. Anyway, one of his songs is The Island, which I have not heard in years. youtu.be/vzW6RQ-5jqM?...
