I think I come down to the "you put your name on it, you vouch for it unconditionally, every word, regardless of LLM use" side of the debate rather than the "you should explicitly say if you used an LLM always" side. Too much potential to use the machine to dodge accountability

LLMs feel unknowable. I find this viscerally unpleasant. Yes, computers are unfathomably complex but each level follows predictable rules you can understand with reading, logic and trial and error. (Conditions apply.) Dunno how to understand X00 bn parameters. Perhaps at some level it can be done?

My usual approaches are useless here. I can’t build my own llm. I can’t look at the source or throw it in a disassembler - it’s just matrix multiplication. Even if I understood multihead attention properly, the weights do not have individual meanings in the ways I am used to from code or circuits

“Cautiously optimistic about <small area>, extremely scared about <large areas>” is an AI take I think I’m hearing more frequently from serious people.

Hey grok, what’s the opposite of “go woke, go broke”?

Amid all the arguments back and forth about if the government should ban twitter or not I think we’re leaving out one of the key details: they should ban twitter because I would personally find it very funny

Every once in a while I wonder about supply chains. Like what if we couldn’t make new (modern) computers for a decade or so? Or, idk, how are the medicines I take made - and where?

Naww, you are very kind Kate! Also, yes, come work with us!

okay i was told to "hire more people like Daniel". So! Are you: - exceptionally nice (despite knowing C) - located in an inconvenient timezone - irritated by compilation times - bewilderingly productive. like how do you do it man, i don't understand. our production requirements are frankly hostile

Come work at Fastly with Kate and me! It’s an opening on my team, and we do really cool stuff.

Kate@katef.bsky.social

okay happy new year everybody, come and work near me. we have one (1) position open, it's not on my team, and it's five months later than i thought. but it's the best i got 😅 job description is here: www.fastly.com/about/jobs/a... if you DM me about it, i can answer stuff & make a referral for you

I have often wondered how far society can bifurcate. You can get woke/anti-woke coffee or film or tv but could you get woke/anti-woke _groceries_? Turns out, probably yes?

The divergence here from two companies with *very* similar customer bases is pretty wild, you do not see this sort of thing happen at scale very often.

It’s inverse Itanium - iykyk

This is my favorite "I wish I could get paid for doing this bad a job" graph: US DoE's renewable energy growth forecasts each year vs. reality. (They use the lower-end forecasts but these are only a tiny bit unfair.)

Get the polish crew that did the train drm hack on it!

Denmark has donated 19 of the F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, and now Trump has ordered an end to US support for their onboard jamming equipment, thereby helping Putin destroy this USD 291,000,000 donation. This US administration is an enemy of Europe. news.online.ua/en/the-us-is...

As an Australian I only learned about Stoxx the other day and my goodness what a name. Stoxx. It's an index of (well, a family of indexes of) Stocks. Stoxx. Stocks in Stoxx. Friendship ended with ASX, SXAUP is my best friend now.

I’ve been thinking about this reading from Isaiah 58 since I heard it at the Ash Wednesday service today. “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?

Just gonna go back to vague-posting slightly alarming song lyrics, 1999 AIM style. It's about all my brain can handle.
