Such a great thread.

Westerns & the Old West@davidlambertart.bsky.social

On May 11, 1950, while working on the Rawlins National Bank in Wyoming, a construction crew unearthed a whiskey barrel that contained a human skeleton with its skull cap sawed off & an odd pair of shoes. Dr. Lillian Heath, now in her 80s, was asked if she knew anything about it...🧵

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Today Mayor Katie Wilson announced she’s already fired Seattle’s next police chief after he somehow teargassed Capitol Hill, deleted public records, hired someone to have an affair on the job with, and threatened to fight a reporter all before 9 a.m.

Yesterday I published this detailed article arguing that women are simply not safe around men. I cited history, data, legal analysis, and meaningful solutions to combat the systemic violence men commit against women. It is currently approaching 500,000 reads. www.qasimrashid.com/p/women-are-...

Shakespeare’s will included mourning rings for his friends. I like that idea: a glance at someone’s hands lets you know they’re missing a loved one.

Loudest boom I've ever heard.

“Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it!” Forty-six years after USGS volcanologist David A. Johnston sent his final transmission during the first moments of the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, we remember all the lives lost and changed that day and honor his legacy of public service.

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

I’m old and have a lot less at stake than many people. If I get arrested, I won’t lose my pension. If I get shot, I’ll lose 10-20 years of arthritis getting worse and worse. I have no reason not to rouse a little rabble.

Make the calls to your Senator's!

Casual reminder that a bill must pass *both* the House and the Senate (and get signed by POTUS) to become law. The DHS / ICE appropriations bill passed the House. It still needs to pass the Senate with 60 votes. That vote will be *NEXT WEEK* Call your Senators.🔥📞🔥

A female wolf has been doing something unusual on the Central Coast of British Columbia. She's learned to pull crab traps up from the water, yanking on a rope to bring it to the surface. But is it tool use? Very fun story from @phiejacobs.bsky.social for @science.org

SEATTLE!!! We’ve now taken the lead by 91 votes! 🤯 This thing is certainly not over! Over 1,000 ballots have been challenged, so if you haven’t tracked your ballot yet get on it! Our trusty volunteers have been working hard to "cure" ballots so they count! We're so close!

Ristretto reposted

Please check your ballots to make sure they were counted. It takes 5 minutes. And fixing issues is just as quick.

The Urbanist@theurbanist.org

There's still a lot of curable ballots from Seattle (about 1,800). Most are unsigned or signature mismatches, and most skew younger.

We’re on the right track! Make sure you track your ballot to confirm it is accepted, NOT challenged. Check our links in bio to do so! More votes will be counted on Monday!

"I’m afraid to report all that is about to be replaced by insufferable eternal darkness, which I expect to last sometime well into tenebrous infinitude."

Saka should take a look at the org charts of both ST and Metro and maybe meet with the police chiefs of each before coming up with another useless layer of bureaucracy.

Ryan Packer@typewriteralley.bsky.social

Rob Saka wants to take money *directly* from transit service funding to pay for a new "Chief Transit Security and Safety Officer" at the City of Seattle. That's despite the fact that King County is directly in charge of many of the things this new position would be trying to direct.

Seattle’s 2nd busiest bus is pausing this project waiting for a new president in 2029 instead of just deploying what they can for $90 million dollars. How much does painting the lane cost? I’ll do it for $2 million dollars, then you can come back and finish the rest in 2037 or whatever
