This is shameful work by the Trump administration. And puts us all at risk. (Thread)

Eric Lipton NYT@ericlipton.nytimes.com

Everyone should read these threads I did about industry lobbyists and the EPA and understand them. Take the time to see the unambiguous evidence of what's happening now at this moment inside the EPA. Please retweet them. Please read them. Each one of the threads. It's happening in slow motion.

There's an interesting and dismaying timeline here, in which the company, the FDA and USDA identified the problem weeks ago but no public recall of the tainted chicken wraps was ordered by the government. The information they've shared appears to be due to excellent reporting by @usatoday.com.

foodsafetynews.comPublisher's Platform: USDA finally on the record; names Trader Joe's in E. coli outbreakNaming the product cost the government nothing on Oct. 23. It would have cost nothing on Sept. 23.

Okay, first, this is good advice. The risk of botulinum poisoning nothing to dismiss. But if you read this warning statement, it's also will remind you of how thing our food safety net is at the moment. The FDA asked the company to recall the risky product and they refused. 1/2

fda.govFDA Advises Not to Eat, Sell, or Serve Cold Smoked Sprats Sold by HaifDo not eat, sell, or serve any cold smoked sprats sold by Haifa Smoked Fish, Inc. due to potential Clostridium botulinum contamination.

Even though the agency had inspected their production facility and found they weren't bothering to protect against the bacteria. We've seen this refusal to recall with raw cheese makers as well regarding bacterial contamination. This apparently toothless process protects no one.

At 10am Judge Ana Reyes will begin an evidentiary hearing in the golf course case at 10am. I'll try to live-blog from the US Courthouse media room for @lawfaremedia.org . This is a case to stop Trump from converting a historic public golf course, open to all, to a Trump style championship course.
